How did some pundits forget the quality of our Spanish star?

|

After the high of watching Liverpool conquer Chelsea on Sunday, reds fans have been somewhat brought back down to earth with the frustrating draw at Wigan on Wednesday. It would have been nice to make it four league wins in a row, but this is the Premier League we’re playing in, and there is no such thing as an easy Premier League away match. So, on a positive note, at least it was one more point gained there than in the corresponding fixture last season, and perhaps more importantly, we saw yet more evidence that Fernando Torres is getting closer to reaching his best form.

The Spaniard’s finish against Wigan was as clinical as they come, and I’m glad it also puts an end to the unwanted record of him not managing to score in a league game away from home this season. I can forgive fans for being fickle; we’re emotionally attached to our clubs, and any underachievement will feel like the end of the world, especially in the 24 hours or so after a bad result. Pundits (particularly the ex-professionals) though should know better, and I’ve found some of their criticisms of Fernando Torres this season ridiculous to say the least; the type of stuff you can’t take seriously. The worst part of it all though is when you have to listen to fellow fans buying into the crap being spouted out by certain pundits, saying things like ‘Torres isn’t the same player anymore’.

Well basically the pundits should keep their mouths shut. I hate the fact that these guys get paid for expressing their views and most of them haven’t even kicked a ball in their entire life time so what right have they got to criticise a world cup winner who’s scored 77 goals in 130 appearances?
