FIVE Games which could define our season?

|

After a fairly positive start to life under Kenny Dalglish for the second time, we’re currently experiencing something we’ve not for quite some time: an unbeaten run.  Since the 16th January, the Reds have been on a 6 game unbeaten run in the League (7 if you count last Thursday’s fixture with Sparta); following the 2:2 derby draw with Everton, we’ve won 4 and drawn the last league game at home to Wigan.  Now, while that admittedly wasn’t a great result, we can all appreciate how  different our attitude to that draw was to how we’d have felt 3 months ago: disappointment, as opposed to relief at escaping with a point.

It is for that reason that I believe our next 5 league games are hugely important.  Until we play Arsenal at the Emirates on 16th April, we have 5 games that are eminently winnable.  And while these may include two fixtures against the two Manchester sides, they are both at home and neither has been even close to convincing at any point this season.  City ebb and flow from the brilliant to the bizarre; with some crazy personnel choices from the manager and a lot of below-average performances from their £200+ million squad.

United on the other hand rely far too heavily on a handful of players and, despite what the press and media will have you believe, their squad is diabolically poor in comparison to the likes of Chelsea, City and Tottenham.  In reality, they’re not a great deal better than we are at the moment and I’m sure we’ll discover before too long that their continuing success has something to do with Beelzebub.  Either way, they are both beatable.  A good Liverpool side, with the additions of Suarez and – hopefully in time for the United game – Andy Carroll, is a match for both of them on their day, especially backed by what will no doubt be a powerful Anfield crowd.

Don’t underestimate ManU. They grind out results because they believe in themselves!

i agree about wigan result..the draw felt as bad as a defeat…

Dalglish should play a 4-5-1 formation against West Ham as the Hammers wingers would prevent Liverpool’s wingbacks getting forward in the 3-5-2 system. Dalglish needs to prioritize the Premier League ahead of the Europa League as while it is unlikely that 4th spot can be got, finishing on 72 points would put Liverpool in with a real shout at it. Benitez prioritized the mickymouse Europa League after Christmas last season and this alone resulted in the club finishing in a pathetic 7th place and this time there is no Portsmouth to get relegated.

I dont know how united is leading the table but their performances are poor. Especially away from home. Adding to it, Liverpool have the chance to make an important influence in United’s title chances… I am sure we will win that game.

Sunderland away will be extremely difficult. I doubt if we win it. Maybe we should be glad with a point there.

We really need Carroll now as Meireles is the only one scoring the goals at the moment. Thats a real weakness of the team and I cant help feeling our current position in the table will be really difficult to improve on if we keep relying on Raul.
