Liverpool targetLIVERPOOL have entered the race to hijack the signing of Tottenham Hotspurs top priority signing, Roberto Soldado according to The Daily Star.

The Valencia striker was the subject of a £17 million bid from Spurs which was rebuffed by the Spanish outfit, and the Londoners have already bounced back with an improved offer of £20 million.

However, Brendan Rodgers is prepared to eclipse this improvement and, with the club still waiting on the future of Luis Suarez, will offer around £22 million for the Spanish forward.

Soldado has been notified of Liverpool’s interested and, on his return from holiday today, will be expected to enter into discussion with Valencia’s president, Amadeo Salvo.

Soldado’s contract has a £30 million escape clause and Valencia will be fighting tooth and nail to prevent the striker from departing – which would include a large pay rise if he opts to remain at the Mestalla.

However, Valencia’s sporting director, Braulio Ortiz, has admitted that due to the club’s financial troubles Valencia may be forced to sell, as they have not achieved Champions League football for next season, with Ortiz saying: “We are sounding out the market because it’s necessary to have a ‘Plan B’ in this ¬situation.”

Valencia have given both teams a deadline to express their interest in the player, with August 3rd the date for any interested teams to comply with the club’s release clause.

Soldado proved his worth last season, scoring an impressive 24 goals in La Liga.

Hey all, I'm 17 years old and I've only been writing sports articles for a couple of months. I'm an aspiring journalist living in the Anfield area (about 5 minutes from the stadium, seriously, I can hear the roar of the Kop from my house!) I've been a lifelong supporter along with my entire family (except one Uncle, but we don't need to talk about that) and I've followed the Reds through the good and the bad times - and there's been a lot of both. I recently got accepted into college and shall be taking a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Journalism, with this hopefully being the first step towards a full time career in journalism.

Soldado to Tottenham could be closed today after Baldini met Valencia officials in hotel,Baldini pictured negotiating …….sorry Liverpool, looks like you have lost out again to THFC

  • Clive says:

Do try and get your facts right the buy out clause of 30 million is EUROS not pounds.

  • Jackie says:

soldado is a proven goalscorer, a poacher we need someone like that ONLY IF SUAREZ LEAVES… think about it,at the moment we have aspas, sturridge, borini, suarez in strike if we get another strikers all the others will have to be on the bench.

  • Dazpowder says:

28 yr old, very few international appearances (Spain preferred no strikers to him up front!), unproven in the physical Prem & no big boys chasing him.
Obviously no one knows if he’ll be successful but for me, with the above considered, he is well overpriced and a possible flop. I hope we spend elsewhere

  • Jackie says:

have to admit spurs always beat us to signing average players like sigurdsson, dempsey. I hear spurs want to sell them both now to fund for a new forward…soldado perhaps?

  • caveman says:

Daily Star talking rubbish as they have all closed season, year after year. This is not a newspaper and should be brought to book for it’s stupid guess work.

  • Jackie says:

I heard we are close to securing 18 mail for eriksen

  • Ray says:

Come on you Liverpool fans, you cant all possibly be so stupid. Many of your comments sound so childish and smacks of jealousy. Perhaps a lot of you are still smarting over both Gylfi Sigurdsson and Clint Dempsey snubbing your club in favour of Spurs. Did Spurs go in for either of your current centre forwards, the two bunny rabbits Suarez and Sturridge? The answer is NO. If you start believing everything you read in the gutter press particularly the Daily Star, then you’re a very sad bunch. Granted, not quite as sad as the * from the red part of Manchester whom we all detest. The * in the press make up bulls* on the hoof and always put a spin on everything they write which is designed to aggravate

Honestly as for me, it’s a big NO for Roberto Soldado…….is he not the same guy that played in the striking position for Spain……Mehn, the guy is not sharp enough,he’s not clinical enough, though his positioning sense is okay but what is your positioning sense when u can’t get a goal with it…… I don’t want him in Lfc but then, Who am I to decide just a common fan……..YNWA.

  • allaboutanfield says:

liverpool does have our own scouting team.its just that we spend too much time on price negotians. Until Spurs came and grab our targets.

    • Series says:

well its the other way round this time………besides all the scouts know each other and information is being passed around all the time…………I think its pretty irrelevant

    • Max says:

Thats because we do not have any money. All this talk of signing top players is bull to me. One minute we not selling reina, the next, due to finacial gains we loan him to Napoli!! We hav to accept now, that we are a mid-table team from now on and never can buy top players of the calibre of Soldado, Ericksen, Mikhlanariyan etc… We just dont have the funds and FSG has doine us over.

  • allaboutanfield says:

How true we got no money 2 buy good players. All thanks 2 e previous manager who wasted 100 million poumds.

  • Gary baker says:

There isn’t one bit of truth in this article .NOT ONE !!!
