Liverpool to hijack Spurs target Soldado

Liverpool targetLIVERPOOL have entered the race to hijack the signing of Tottenham Hotspurs top priority signing, Roberto Soldado according to The Daily Star.

The Valencia striker was the subject of a £17 million bid from Spurs which was rebuffed by the Spanish outfit, and the Londoners have already bounced back with an improved offer of £20 million.

However, Brendan Rodgers is prepared to eclipse this improvement and, with the club still waiting on the future of Luis Suarez, will offer around £22 million for the Spanish forward.

Soldado has been notified of Liverpool’s interested and, on his return from holiday today, will be expected to enter into discussion with Valencia’s president, Amadeo Salvo.

Soldado’s contract has a £30 million escape clause and Valencia will be fighting tooth and nail to prevent the striker from departing – which would include a large pay rise if he opts to remain at the Mestalla.

However, Valencia’s sporting director, Braulio Ortiz, has admitted that due to the club’s financial troubles Valencia may be forced to sell, as they have not achieved Champions League football for next season, with Ortiz saying: “We are sounding out the market because it’s necessary to have a ‘Plan B’ in this ¬situation.”

Valencia have given both teams a deadline to express their interest in the player, with August 3rd the date for any interested teams to comply with the club’s release clause.

Soldado proved his worth last season, scoring an impressive 24 goals in La Liga.

Hey all, I'm 17 years old and I've only been writing sports articles for a couple of months. I'm an aspiring journalist living in the Anfield area (about 5 minutes from the stadium, seriously, I can hear the roar of the Kop from my house!) I've been a lifelong supporter along with my entire family (except one Uncle, but we don't need to talk about that) and I've followed the Reds through the good and the bad times - and there's been a lot of both. I recently got accepted into college and shall be taking a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Journalism, with this hopefully being the first step towards a full time career in journalism.

    Failing Liverpool or upcoming Spurs…….

If it comes down to a choice for the player he’ll be in a Spurs shirt before you can remind us how good Liverpool were in the 70’s!!!

    • Cromby says:

At least Liverpool were good, not a thing Spurs would know anything about. Besides he has probably never heard of your lot anyway. Hahahahahahahahahaa back.

    • Patrick says:

What have Spurs won lately ?

A league cup in 2009 was the last cup won , the league was last won in 1961 and never won a Champions league.

  • Series says:

sorry guys cant see Liverpool winning this race, with the signings that Spurs have already made, and the attraction of playing along side Bale, seem only one winner for me….

It will be a miracle if he joins liverpool.

  • Wally07 says:

Even if he goes to liverpool the reds will still finish below the toffees lol!

  • Rob says:

Come on you spurs make it happen don’t let the guzumpers beat you again

  • Jim says:

Rodgers is stupid and moves slowly. I think Spurs will sign him.

Liverpool are a team on the up, working under a manager in Rodgers who clearly knows what he is doing in terms of constructing a side from an attacking standpoint.
Rodgers has also made some shrewd signings in the form of Sturridge and Coutinho, although we are STILL waiting to see how some of his other (expensive) purchases do for the club long-term (i.e. Allen, Assaidi, Borini and co).

If you ask me, IF Liverpool truly intend on holding onto Suarez, like Rodgers has claimed, they would be better off looking at bringing in a top-CB, a true DM/physical presence (Tiote/ Willians/N’Zonzi, Luiz Gustavo), another creative force such as Eriksen or Guaitan, and perhaps even another full-back.

With the likes of Suarez, (the EXTREMELY talented) Sturridge, Borini and Aspas, all of whom can/prefer (to) play upfront, I am not entirely sure why Rodgers/Liverpool would be interested in buying ANOTHER striker, unless, like I said, LUFC plan on selling Suarez.

Whilst I agree Liverpool are a team on the up, you’re still a couple of seasons behind Spurs in terms of progression. However, you’re a season or two ahead of Spurs when it comes to your best player wanting to leave the club…

dont talk before you know the facts spurs tried to sign soldado last season the player himself was intrested in coming but valencia didnt have to sell as they were in the champions league and had the money to service their debts this season they didnt qualify so they need cash to service their debts otherwise they could sink . as to the deal its almost done it just needs ratifying by the board tommorow soldado has agreed wages and length of contract just a medical to be done so long as the terms of payment is agreed by the board tommorow . and the money for this deal has been in place since last season so no need to raise funds by selling players as everone seems to think , and this will not be the last signing spurs make this season exspect atleast two more bfore the window closes , this is part of the reason bale is staying because levy is sending a message of intent to the rest of the league . coys

why would he be a bin dipper, when he can be a lilywhite????. COYS

  • oxfordyid says:

also liverpool i beleive are looking for other players a central defender and maybe a midfielder or two and unless suarez leaves then there is no need for another striker as your prioritys are elsewhere . i for one welcome a resurgent liverpool to rub the chelskis and the mancs up the wrong way and prove the world doesnt revolve round them and join us in the champions league in 2014 . coys

  • allaboutanfield says:

have u guys always noticed that everytime liverpool is interested in a player spurs are also interested as well.

    • sanjay rughoonauth says:

yeah so simple than that, bcoz they cant identify players to pik up,so rely on lfc to do their job, so shame on them

    • Gory says:

The title of the story is ‘Liverpoll to Hijack”….

  • red says:

It is not going to happen. At very best, BR and FSG will give us few young kids/old retiree loan deals.

Who is going to believe BR/FSG ??? Mignolet for competition with Reina, right ???

  • Samuel says:

Rodgers should not wait on suarez befor signing soldado beca use spurs are also interested

  • Raam says:

Yeah Series,,stars will be very tempted to play alongside a player who can trip and fall even by a babies sneeze..because he’s very fast. And what will happen when he is injured!!??…try some other reason please..Dempsey’s and Gylfy’s service to spurs was very good last season but their situations are not so promising at the moment isn’t it? This is what happens when both players and clubs get greedy and too ambitious.. Spurs got to where they were because of Harry Redknapp and not because of others. If the spurs board agreed to Harry’s proposal, they might have got CL this season but they choose to hire AVB instead. And nobody should be surprised if AVB himself signs for Barcelona as what reports surfacing.

  • iyanuoluwapo says:

I dont really fink soldado can fill d void if suarez departs buh i solely bliv in #daniel sturrige

  • victor says:

I wonder if spurs do scout for playas or is it any playa lvp scout n re interested in dy ll rush to bid first.

  • Tobi Owoyimika says:

This guy(Soldado) is a top, quality forward. He will add more attacking prowess to the team.Infact,Suarez might stay if Soldado is signed. They could both be used in attack.Act fast Brendan!

  • Harold says:

Why don’t Liverpool get their own scouts?

Nobody would’ve ever heard of Spain international Roberto Soldado before Liverpool reportedly bid AFTER Spurs did.

  • LEO says:

T’wuld b d signing of d summer if lfc wuld b able to siGN roberto soldado,,hz signature shuldnt rely on d uncertain future of L.SUAREZ..lfc should go get daht man..nd only den, wuld Cl futbol b guaranteed!

  • Dillboy says:

I very much doubt we will end up buying soldado. He’s 28 to start with? What happened to the buying young philosophy? We have not signed anyone that age since the arrival of fsg so think we can work out we’re not going to get soldado or very much doing it anyway. Secondly if we spend that sort of money on another striker it will be to replace Saurez and that won’t happen until after Saurezes departure if he goes not before otherwise we would have both players wages to pay
