What a difference a week makes. Three draws in a row, still struggling to score goals and the well-known nervousness setting in the minute we concede a goal; all indications pointed to Jurgen Klopp having a big job ahead of him.
A hard fought win against Bournemouth and a (in the end) confident win at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea and the world suddenly looks a much brighter place. Jurgen may finally be seeing the tide turn for his Liverpool side.
But whereas beating struggling Bournemouth and Chelsea sides is one thing, a tough trip away to Kazan represents another potential banana skin in the Reds’ progress under Klopp.
At the best of times, Russia is a notoriously difficult place to go and get a result of any kind. And as Rubin Kazan showed at Anfield a couple of weeks ago, they are no walkover, despite currently struggling in their own domestic league.
So a lot is going to depend on how seriously the manager takes the Europa League this season. The indications from the first game at Anfield suggest he will put out as strong a side as possible but is keen to ensure a fit and strong team is available for the weekend league game.
With that in mind, take a look at the team we’ve gone for.
