Portuguese newspaper Abola are reporting that Liverpool are already in “advanced negotiations” regarding the return of Steven Gerrard in a coaching role at the club.
Gerrard’s confirmed on Tuesday that the 36 year old would not be renewing his contract to stay in MLS with LA Galaxy leading to speculation about the Reds Legend’s next steps.
Bookies had shortened odds of a move to Celtic to play under former manager Brendan Rodgers, as well as Newcastle to play under former boss Rafa Benitez, but a return to Merseyside looks to be the most likely possibility.
Abola say that Gerrard has a number of offers on the table to continue playing but he wants a job at Liverpool. He is not keen on a symbolic ambassadorial role however and he has set his sights on a high profile coaching role in the Reds academy in order to continue his development towards completing all his coaching badges.
