LFC Youth Watch – Lauri Dalla Valle Match Report v Wigan

|

676305825th Mar – Liverpool 1 – 1 Wigan (Premier Reserve League North) – Striker Lauri Dalla Valle started the match as the Reds Reserves stretched their unbeaten record to 15 matches. Despite keeping their good run of form, the Reds played out a frustrating 1-1 draw and Dalla Valle will be disappointed he didn’t put away at least one of the opportunities that went his way. Liverpool were slow to get going in the match and the lack of pace and intensity continued throughout as they struggled to break the Latics down. The first chance for the Reds came 20 minutes into the game when a free kick was headed across goal by Daniel Ayala into the path of Dalla Valle, but the Finnish striker was prevented from scoring by alert goalkeeping by Lee Nicholls in the Wigan goal who intercepted the ball. Dalla Valle also had two chances before half-time to put the Reds into the lead; the first came after some shoddy defending allowed the Finn in at the far post, but Nicholls was at hand again to save the defence’s blushes. Just before the interval, Dalla Valle’s  second opportunity came after a fantastic cross from the impressive Franciso Duran but the 18 year old striker could only head against the crossbar. The Second half saw Liverpool putting Wigan under real pressure and they deservedly took the lead through Martin Kelly on the hour mark after a well worked free kick. The lead lasted only a few minutes though as the Reds conceded a free kick 20 yards out, not long after the restart, and they were duly punished as Jordan Mustoe hammered home from the set piece. The reserves tried furiously to restore the lead but chances came and went. Centre back Victor Palsson ventured forward to cross for Dalla Valle but he couldn’t place his diving header on target. The Finn also had an opportunity in injury time after a great first touch led to a shot which was saved expertly by Nicholls. Reserve coach John McMahon commented on Dalla Valle after the match:

“Lauri was unlucky. His first touch is excellent and it was a good save.”

The result means that the Reds are still six points behind league leaders Man Utd, but with three games in hand, they will be confident of overhauling them in the run-in.

    Dalla Valle is going to be a good player, however when your young allthings factor into a player being a great young talent becoming a great player.

    for me plessies is pants, he can go, people think darby will develope, im not having that,, id sell him to.

    clear out;
    cavalerli gk, promote a younger keeper and save the club money, i,.e dave martin, and we have others too.
    degen to go, reira, to go, aurelio to go, not played enough i have no time for centimate, get rid, get rid of nemeth, yes a greta little player but has attitude and the minute he was in greece he was saying he wants to stay, well ok, stay.

    promote ince, ayala, kelly full time, eccleston, pacehco and ther are others looking good.

    wisdom, palson, but clear out all dead wood and i we really need the money one of babel or benayoun, id probably go for benayoun because if we can trade with the same player but an upgrade on yossi thats good business, keep babel, as a squad player, in a perfect world we would keep all but degen, plessies, reira and bring in 5 top players but im not mate with allan sugar! these f***ing owners

    To Samuel Charles: A couple of valid points but they would have been more interesting and have more emphasis if you used a grammar and spell checker before posting.
