LFC Youth Watch: Tom Ince Mini-Derby Match Report

|

68459839th Mar – Liverpool 4 – 3 Everton (Premier Academy League) – Left winger Tom Ince started the Mini-Derby as the Young Reds came from 2-0 down to beat ten man Everton. The highlight of the match was a debut goal for Raheem Sterling but it was a team performance which saw goals from Krisztian Adorjan and two penalties from Michael Roberts and Craig Roddan. The game turned on Everton Shane Duffy’s sending off one minute into the second half and young winger Ince played the whole match as he contributed to the dramatic second half turnaround. Coach Rodolfo Borrell felt such performances showed that the Academy was making progress since his arrival:

“It is a nice victory for me, but especially for the fans and the club. I am also happy for Rafael Benitez, as he invests a lot of time in the club and the Academy. He made a bold move to bring me and the rest of my staff to Liverpool, so it’s nice to be able to win this sort of match for him.”

Certainly performances have picked up in the last month and the Academy side is unbeaten in the last four matches. Ince and the rest of the team will hope they can push on for the rest of the season to finish in a respectable league position.
