Nathan Eccleston Match Report vs Southampton

|

Nathan Eccleston 22nd Mar – Southampton 5 – 0 Huddersfield (League One) – Huddersfield were thrashed by a resurgent Southampton, going down 5-0 at St Marys, all but ending the Terriers hopes of automatic promotion. Goals from Rickie Lambert, Lee Barnard, Jason Puncheon, Dean Hammond and Papa Waigo N’Diaye sealed victory for the Saints. Nathan Eccleston came on as a 57th minute substitute for Gary Roberts on the wing but was unable to prevent the Terriers slipping to a heavy defeat. Already 3-0 down when he came on, the Liverpool loanee played an important part in one of Huddersfield’s attacks mid way through the second half. After Terriers keeper Alex Smithies set up an attack on the left hand side, Tom Clarke played a good one-two with Eccleston before the on-loan Reds striker squared the ball to Anthony Kay. Kay passed the ball right to Pilkington, but his deep cross could only see striker Jordan Rhodes head wide from a narrow angle. Good to see Eccleston playing and involved in some good play. Hopefully the performance by Huddersfield will persuade Lee Clark into a reshuffle so we can see Eccleston start once more.
