LFC Youth Watch – Tom Ince Match Report v Sheff Utd

|

17th Apr – Liverpool 1 – 1 Sheffield United (Premier Academy League)- Liverpool Academy winger Tom Ince was on the scoresheet as the young Reds extended their unbeaten run to seven matches since their defeat to Watford in the FA Youth Cup back in February. 18 year old Ince was expected to progress to the Reserve team along with his other FA Youth Cup finalists of last season David Amoo and Lauri Dalla Valle, but he has stayed with the Academy this season, and such performances like the one on Saturday should convince the Reds coaching staff that he merits a promotion to the Reserve team squad. Liverpool Under 18s had to come from 1-0 down against the young Blades but Ince levelled with a late second half strike, to keep the young Reds 6th in the Premier Academy League table. Under 18s coach Rodolfo Borrell told Liverpoolfc.tv that the team has made very good progress in recent matches:

“I am happy with our continued improvement, but now is not the time for us to relax. We have made significant strides in the last few months, but we must work even harder now because we still have a long way to go. We are on the right track and there is no doubt that winning matches has helped the confidence of the team. But these young players need to push on and ensure they keep improving all the time.”
