LFC Youth Watch – David Amoo Match Report v Burnley

|

16th Apr – Liverpool 1 – 3 Burnley (Premier Reserve League North) – Winger David Amoo starred for Liverpool reserves but he was unable to prevent the Reds losing their third game in a row as they went down 3-1 at Turf Moor against Burnley. The Reserves started off well enough and Amoo was in the thick of the action straight away after  flicking on a cross from Gerardo Bruna into the path of Nikola Saric who could only fire wide from just outside of the area. Burnley however took the lead through a deflected effort from Alex McDonald before moments later Frederic Nimani made it 2-0. The Reds had some chances to reduce the deficit and on 20 minutes they got back into the match. Excellent work from Amoo on the right hand side saw him easily pass two Burnley defender before delivering a fantastic cross for Nikola Saric who cooly finished from close range. Saric felt he should have had a penalty before half time after Kevin Long brought him down in the area, but it was Burnley who extended their lead just before the interval when Chris Mavinga decided to head back towards his own goal from the half way line, allowing Nimani a one on one with goalkeeper, which he converted with ease. The second half saw Liverpool trying to get back into the game but the only real chances came to Nicolaj Kohlert and also to Amoo who headed against the crossbar with only minutes remaining. The defeat leaves Liverpool still nine points behind leaders Manchester United in the league table, and they now only have one game in hand. With 3 games left, the league title is all but gone.
