Rafa: Lucas was the stand out performer

|

LucasRafa Benitez praised the performance of the entire team after the 4-1 victory against Benfica last night. The Liverpool manager however paid a special tribute to Lucas:

“To be in the semi-final of a European competition is really good for us. Hopefully now we can see Fulham in the final because it would be good to have two English teams there. The performance of the team pleased me most. Everyone played really well but especially Lucas. We try to win every game. If we can get to the final and win the final then I will be really pleased but we must target both that and finishing in the top four.”

The 22 year old midfielder scored the second goal, rounding Benfica’s goalkeeper Julio Cesar, and assisted the fourth goal by winning the ball in midfield with a crunching challenge which left the Brazilian on the floor. What did you think of Lucas’s performance last night?

You don’t expect such a fantastic finish from a player like Lucas Leiva. Lets be sincere, the boy was OUTSTANDING last night…….give him a break.

Well taken goal. I thought it was Torres at first. Some fans should give him a break.Look how Fergie messed up with his choices on Tuesday. An inexperienced kid who got red carded and playing Rooney while he was injured. Not to mention the appalling excuses that were made to hide his own incompetence on the night.Funny how the media let him off. Imagine that was Rafa. He would have been lynched, no questions asked. As always some fans are happy to play the sheep and jump on the bandwagon.

lucus is now a good squad option, what more do these two minute lfc fans want for 6 million pounds when chelsea villa spurs and utd pay around 12-18 mill every summer! er hello, we just havent had the cash on every player per head to have these type pf players. spurs have spent over 14o mill in under 3 years! can you tell me why the english media and sky sports and this and that do not go on about that! well done harry redknapp! er for what,,, spending that money and never getting into the top four, and still city have a better chance what the hell have villa won with spending over 100 mill in under 2and half years,,,,, er,,, nothing, well done martin oneil, and to think some you mugs want to have him at liverpool! rafa is the best we can have and trust me, if you gave him the money that utd and chelsea have in one big spend up, liverpool would smash any team in the world and yes any team, give rafa 3 players like silva and villa and cissokho and watch lfc next year,

I think Rafa’s team selection was spot-on; and I think Lucas had an excellent game (unlike the first leg). The sang-froid with which he rounded the keeper and his overall commitment were exceptional. I am however not sure who would be my player of the match – I though Mascherano did a great job, Gerrard and Torres made the difference when it counted, Reina was at his usual dependable best, Johnson played very well, Kyrgiagos got us out of a few problems – and Agger was almost a revelation at left-back, albeit in a very unorthodox way.

The team played well, Rafa got his tactics right (and there are few who can rival him in this department – perhaps only Mourinho), and it was a great night to be a Liverpool fan after so many disappointments this season.

Although lucas played well but just can anybody tell me any special thing which he has done by him in his last 20 matches any goal’s, any assists, any movement any spectacular ball tearing the defence of the rival team, any crunching takles, or anything that shows he is gauranteed a first eleven spot, Friends lucas has played in more than 40 matches for us this season along with kuyt in all competetions and that too from the starts, if rafa had played Babel, Aquilani or even pacheco in half of those 40 matches from starting i bet we would have been in better position than we are in now. I don’t have any thing against lucas but still 1 good performance and we are overjoyed with comments what a player etc. If lucas can play the role consistently more than often than we can say he is a good player otherwise he is not more than a decent squad player with limited skills. Probably a backup to mascerano.
