Is Sheikh Al Maktoum closing in on Liverpool buyout?

|

The Sunday Express is reporting that Dubai International Capital are close to sealing a £500million takeover of Liverpool Football Club. DIC, attempted to buy the club in 2007 and again tried to buy George Gillett’s 50% share in 2008, but, according to the paper, this time could be the real deal as Gillett and Tom Hicks look to sell the club this summer. DIC, is the investment of arm of the rulling family of Dubai, and Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum is prepared to invest heavily in the club. According to the Express, DIC are ready to commit funds to build the Red’s new stadium and are prepared to give the manager a large amount to spend on transfers.

    There are two things wrong with this report. 1 its from the express, 2 DIC are practically owned by Abu Dhabi, and I would highly doubt that they would want to back both Man City and Liverpool. It would be a monumental clash of interests.

  • Ummamah says:

    forgot to add, then again if it did happen i wont be moaning about it and would gladly take back this comment!

  • Rememory says:

    Abu Dhabi is a place not a company…

  • Jonski says:

    If it was a more credible paper I would believe it a bit more. That paper get’s more exclusives wrong than the weather people! Well actually weather people don’t make them up!

  • pete says:

    its laughable what the Express have written, John Richardson is a comedian who always gets things wrong. Firstly DIC no longer exist and Al-Ansar works else where now.

  • Ummamah says:

    I know Abu Dhabi is a place, but when I mention Abu Dhabi I mean their ruling family and their investment arm, the same people who own Man City

  • Oreva says:

    Don’t forget 3. The Express didn’t give any quotations or sources.

  • Férault says:

    Agree with you fully, anyway let’s hope somebody comes along and starts to put things straight. Can’t wait for a proper soccer-minded buyer with a genuine respect for the club’s history and its passionate supporters.

    Yes we can! Win the Premiership one day!

  • kenny mcculloch says:

    the rumour was bound to crop up seeing as they have tried several times to buy liverpool and no1 else! so it has credibility. And its more like DIC practically owns abu dhabi seeing as its sheik mohammad and not a country that governs DIC. DIC are on a different planet financially to the man city owners.

  • Dude says:

    Actually, DIC are not owned by Abu Dhabi. City’s owner is Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan a United Arab Emirati politician and member of ruling family of Abu Dhabi emirate. DIC owner is owned by Dubai ruler, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Two different countries.
    Both stinking rich mind.
    The story from the Express has no sources. We all want it to be true but its poor journalism. Doesn’t even suggest ‘sources in DIC’

  • Backpassmaster says:

    No matter what, yesterday’s defeat tasted like victory for me. I don’t need any more good news for unworthy sources. Still celebrating!!!

  • arab says:

    there is something wrong with ur comment, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum tea-bags Sheikh Monsour for fun. He is responsible for making Dubia what it is, then again Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan tea-bags them all and is truly the money man behind the UAE

  • Pierre Mastroiani says:

    Stop wasting time and energy with the bullshit news. We know it’s not true. Let’s enjoy yesterday’s intentional gaffe from Stevie G. At least, we know Utd got no bragging rights for another season at least.

  • samuel charles says:

    liverpool need;

    100 million on players.
    120 million towards the interest payments and the loans to pay back the banks.
    money for a new 70,000 ground.

    liverpool will then and only then be moved from the problem that they are in;

    but the buttom line is the more the team plays well, the better the player the better the whole club. simple.. and it is just this.

    sell the deadwood. reira, babel, plessies, degen, aurelio, el zhar, nemeth, san jose, spearing darby, etc and with sales from jan window plus these add some spending from ( new owners,,, i hope) then we can then get better QUALITY players in.

    any from;

    joe cole, mata, navas, v.dv, snejider, villa, cisshoko, lahm, olic, llorente, tevez, silva, david luiz, robben, parker, milner, simao, peria, srna, joaquin, etc, just better players.

  • Rodeo says:

    Let’s get Benzema before…Alexie

  • Biff says:

    Can’t possibly be true from the Express, Princess Di wasn’t mentioned once. Maybe she’ll take over from Rafa, we’d be a better team tactically if she did.

  • Khan says:

    DIC!!! In current situation. Dubai is not been able to fund its own project. I dont think they will in for buying LFC…let alone investing heavily on squad!

  • Jonski says:

    Pete@1.41pm. Although I am dubious about this at the moment DIC actually do still exist and Ansari although he took up another director type role at another company in September 2009, one of many might I add! He still maintains his position at DIC. You can have more than one major role at more than one company – think Martin Broughton!!

  • Peter Gill says:

    So let me get this straight. Liverpool fans think that some random billionaire from the middle east is going to ride over the horizon and say…heres 500 million to buy the club….and another 300 million to build a new stadium….and another 150 million to buy players.

    And they genuinely believe this fantasy will become reality.

  • simplyred says:

    I noticed that the press is having a field day on our current situation. There were so much talk about new ownership, last week was a chinese consortium and the past couple of days, had been DIC. So had been said, but don’t everyone think that it’s time for fans to own the club instead. What happen to Share Liverpool FC? I believe this is the best option for the club going forward. It won’t be dictated by businessmen who are there to rip short term profits and also putting the club through another financial strain. Only the Fans want what’s best for the club. YNWA
