Fairclough: Maybe the manager going isn’t entirely bad

|

Former Red David Fairclough believes the the potential sacking of manager Rafa Benitez may not be all bad news for Liverpool. Fairclough told Sky Sports News that the Spanish manager’s departure could bring greater stability to the club as it looks for new investors:

“There does need to be a change, there’s no doubt about that. You need to progress, you need to keep hold of your best players and clearly I think Steven Gerrard has a major part to play in the future of Liverpool Football Club. I think he is perhaps unhappy at the way things have been moving along and there are signs maybe that he wasn’t entirely happy with Rafa himself. You have to have Steven here and I think their only hope probably was to try and restructure a change with a new name at the top to try and make Steven commit. I think he wants to be a Liverpool player for the future but I think he has to be clear in the ways Liverpool are moving forwards. . . It [Rafa’s departure] does put them in a sort of limbo I suppose. But I do think there are a couple of people out there who are looking at Liverpool. Whether or not the valuation is realistic enough remains to be seen and a judgement will be taken on that in due course. But I think some stability on the future of players and some improvement in the general feel of the club may entice a change of mind from new perspective owners. Changes needed to be made, so maybe the manager going isn’t entirely a bad decision.”

Fairclough has suggested that Academy Ambassador and Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish could take over in the short term:

“People will probably be shy to commit and Liverpool probably have a little bit of a problem on their hands in that sense. But with Kenny Dalglish in the back room, I wouldn’t rule against someone like him being involved in how the club goes forward in a short-term way.”

rafa has had more then enough funds to compete at the top yet he never choose players who were established world class. always the next big thing then they were all just flops. He won nothing with his team it was houliers team, when people realise this the better.

  • The Dude says:

Your right Chris he won in Istanbul with Houliers team something that houlier himself would have never managed. He did not get to another champions leauge final with Houliers team it was his team check the team sheet.. was it luck that he manged it twice plus the other cups. And how were we meant to purchase world class players when we had 15mil net to spend each season. I hope our new manger understands what an imposible task he has with these two clowns.

another mug that lives in a dream world, no wounder why the yanks feel they can carry on killing this great club but with fans above who needs the yanks….

  • Steve says:

Chris, I don’t remember Houllier buying Alonso? Didn’t he score the 3rd goal in Istanbul. Oh yes, selective memory time.

  • RR says:

So many fools here … not because your stupid, but because you read the news and believe it !
And then I’m a mug because I don’t agree with your narrow-minded media led view-point!

This change is NOT so much about Rafa’s ability, more about the feel around the club and it had been mentioned a few years ago that Rafa’s tactics did frustrate some players, so what do you want, Rafa stays and our better players go ?

Those who blame ANYONE but not the manager for the performances on the pitch are either bloggers for fun or they are out to bring this club down, I can’t see how you are fans, yes have a point but don’t bully others into having to believe your point !

Rafa needs to go and the owners need to go also… then we can get back to positive chat about our rosey future .. sorry, to some that would be the end of the world … it isn’t

I say we stay positive and believe, I’ve been doing it for over 45 years as a fan and I believe we have a squad good enough to win the PL.

Now watch the number of interested managers, this is a big club and to those who say we wouldn’t get better then Rafa … what short memories you have, I remember the real gods of this club and i remember them leaving, yes the moaners said it was the end of the world and that was LFC dropping down the league … its almost laughable the way some people believe in the negative press!

I say to everyone, no matter what your view is … lets band together as fans and stay positive, this could the change we needed to take the next step forward … just maybe 🙂

I met David Fairclough on an Anfield tour at which he insisted that Gerrard would be leaving this summer and that it had nothing to do with Benitez and everything to do with the lack of investment in the club last summer.

We spoke at some length about it.

He also said that he thought Souness did not deserve the bad reputation he has even after I had pointed out to him the signings of Dicks, Stewart etc.

Makes you wonder about so-called pundits doesn’t it?

We need Hicks, Gillett, Purslow and Broughton out now.

Support a boycott of merchandise escalating to matches to get them out now. This is your chance to hit them where it hurts… in their wallets.
