Ex-Liverpool player John Aldridge believes that the Amercian owners, not Rafa Benitez, should be the first to leave the club. The former striker told the Liverpool Echo:
“Nothing surprises me about Liverpool. The ones who should be getting out of the club are the owners, Hicks and Gillett. They should be going before anyone else but Rafa is going first.It’s a bold move as it’s always a gamble to change the manager. A lot of supporters haven’t been happy with what Rafa has done this year and the way the team fell away.He had a lot of injuries to contend with but some of our football away from home was really poor. It went stale last season and it could be time for a change. I just hope it is all sorted out in the right manner. That the two parties get together amicably and agree it’s the end of the road and go their separate ways. The last thing we want is any more rows. We’ve already hung enough of our dirty laundry out in public.”
Aldridge believes that the board might have a replacement already line up to replace Benitez:
“Liverpool is still a massive club with a massive history – we won’t struggle to attract a big name,”Okay, we don’t have a lot of money but what a challenge it is to come in at this time and try to turn it around. I can’t for the life of me believe they are going to let Rafa go without having someone else lined up. You don’t make a decision like that without knowing who you are going to get in his place. When Gerard Houllier went, Liverpool had Rafa lined up. Some people will say give the job to Kenny Dalglish in the short term. Of course Kenny knows his stuff but we need a permanent boss in place within a week.”

Disagree Aldo … loved your football dude, even watched you at Tranmere but disagree with you on this point.
I believe BOTH owners and manager should leave and I guess that will happen, Rafa going now and the owners selling … we have a future again and I’m happy to say we can find a motivator and prove what great players we have, rebuild .. what rubbish, 2 or 3 additions and a motivator and we will win the PL !!!
Disappointed its now about Rafa getting a big payout, for all those fans who think a manager is there cause he loves LFC, is only true until they leave and now its about getting as much as they can … shame but thats the way of the world … greed !
And NO! I would not want a penny myself, ok maybe be paid until I find another job but to understand the club are tight for dosh, taking anything above wages until he’s employed again is not putting this club or its fans first …

What a shambles, the Yanks have pulled this once proud club in to the gutter. Promises made, promises broken not just here but in the States as well. BUT some of the ex-players have to take thier share of the blame; for constantly undermining Rafa and providing ammunision for the gutter press.
