Broughton: New owners must “win popular support”

|

Liverpool chairman Martin Broughton believes that any new owner must find popular support with the fans. Speaking to Director magazine, Broughton said:

“As long as we get sensible offers, we can do a deal. We are out there to find someone wealthy. But it’s important that they can win popular support.”

The LFC chairman then went on to talk about the parallels of both his job as British Airways chairman and his role with Liverpool:

“In terms of intensity it’s not very different to BA, where every little detail seems to fascinate the press. The level of misreporting is about the same, but the level of fabrication is higher. Football is a unique business. In any M&A [merger and acquisition] there are various stakeholders but supporters and their passion bring a new dimension.”

Responding to former chairman David Moores condemnation of current owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett in a letter in The Times a few months back, Broughton said:

“No, I just found it sad. An old man trying to justify what he himself saw as a mistake by blaming everyone except himself. Who chose to sell? He just went for the most money.”

    MR Broughton, we want the following;

    ownesr who do not lie
owners who actually put some of their own money in
owners who do not lie in the press, media and to its fans
owners who want to improve their club/business/firm
owners who do not drag their club/business/firm through the gutter and make it a bad image while doing so
owners who have a long term plan, rather than making it up as they go along
owners that stop hiding behined people at their club/ business and come out and face the people
owners who want to win and make their business / club their number one prime objective.

owners that know about the sector/ market place that they have a business / club in! that does normally help! …

owners that want to back the manager and not create bad feeling at a place of work…

shall i go on,, its not a hard one to work out

Just in reply to Samuel Charles comment of all the things we want as fans, Firstly let’s not get carried away about what WE WANT, that’s what has LFC in the condition it’s in for the last 3 years. Msrs Stadler and Waldorf put is in that position by their demands of we want we want etc.

Obviously an extremley wealthy owner who is willing to invest would be brilliant, but the most important thing is stability. To get an owner who would be willing to allow the club to run and operate in a footballing manner and allow any monies generated thru football to go back into the football club. This in itself would give LFC an budget somewhere in the region of £50M, and that’s with ANFIELDs capacity. If we were to get a new stadium where would that leave us.

Let’s face the facts, there is not too many people world wide willing to throw hundreds of millions of pounds without seeing an profit and an increase in their bank balance, so for ALL LFC fans let’s not get carried away.

Let’s not get greedy the way stadler and waldorf did, and just hope and pray that whoever takes over the club has the clubs best interests at heart. YNWA

who is the new owner???somebody knows?????

gav, thats true but if you owne and run an business then you have to be expected to at least pay out now and then, other wise then whats the point of running a business, you can not always make money 24/7 its doesnt work like that.
for example the owners are still not spending any money on what we call transfers, and you look at spurs and villa and most of all city, they are paying for players and liverpool have not really been in the market for then being able to back that up by then paying for players. im not saying i what a sugar daddy that spends 100 million each market but i tell you what mate we need more then free deals and more then just what we are doing at the present time to even compete. what ever we you want to dress it up yes we wnat businessmen who want to make money, becasue if they make money then it normally means their brand or team/ firm is doing very well but its got to work half anf half.
Without the Name of liverpool, without the assets of torres and reina and gerrard and others then what do they trade off?
we need better players to then make liverpool and even bigger brand, but please remember what ever business you run you only get in what you put in and that is where the two yanks are so bad.
please do not try and cover up what they have done and what they are still doing untill we have new owners who are at least in love with liverpool.
care for liverpool, and want to make liverpool the best team in the land and do it the right way without lying and making liverpool a laughing stock in the press and media do you get what im saying are does all this need spelling out….

just to tell you that inter milan have dropped their interest and rafa wants pinnar instead. thats what have been told from south america where mascherano is on holiday.

  • Gav says:

Samuel, Please please please don’t get me wrong. I can’t wait to see the back of those 2 W***ers that have dragged LFC into this mess, what I am trying to say is that if we can get some stability back into the club and some faith from the fans and attract some players that want to play with their heart on their sleves, the money that We LFC will generate will be enough to compete with any club world wide.

If you get some Sugar Daddy in paying massive wages, you have to ask are these players there for the money or are they there for the love of the club and the ability to win the PL for LFC.

We as a club(I know I do) want players who want to play for LFC, for the passion, for the atmosphere of the fans. There is no better fans world wide than the fans of LFC on match day. I’m Irish and I know that all fans regardless of race religion or culture are looked apon equal by everyone who sits in a LFC jersey on match day. This is what I would love to see. Players and club preforming for Us, the fans of LFC.

Just one more thing Samuel, every single one of Us we all want the best for LFC.

Here’s to an interesting few Months.

    YNWA.

Well Moores really put himself out there when he was outspoken about the new owners, the same owners he picked!
He didn’t get simpaty from the fans, and he can not expect any.

Ok mr. Broughton, now find a new owner, we dont want you mis any more Liverpool-Chelsea games.

  • daboy says:

I hope the new owners will not put the debt of ownership against the club, the price they are asking means someone has to take a big loss to begin with.
I just hope they get the club back on its feet i am not dreaming of any huge transfer kitties but that would be nice.
