Mr Broughton: Tell us the truth!!

|

With ever greater amounts of speculation regarding Liverpool’s top players and their roles within our club, the alarming details that some of the players were being touted or being sold to clubs in the interim period beggars belief.

The Statements thatwere made in the press by Martin Broughton prior to the appointment of Roy Hodgson that no players were to be or needed to be sold prior to the new season, seem a sham with Yossi Benayoun comments in the weekends newspapers that a deal was already done with Chelsea after Rafa Benitez had departed.

It seems Hodgson`s hands were tied from an early stage of his tenure and now we are being linked to what I would call “b” players, the latest being Paul Scharner, a player released by Wigan, yes Wigan, not Juventus or Barcelona, to join on a free transfer.

Further transfers are now expected in the upcoming weeks with Emiliano Insua, Lucas Leiva, Javier Mascherano, David Ngog, Diego Cavalieri and a few of the youngsters confirmed that clubs are making bids on our players and that talks are at a advanced stage with at least three of these.

Presumably Hodgson is overseeing these and is allowing the players to hold talks with other clubs and as much as I am not a great admirer of a couple players in our squad, the fact is most of these have played roles over the last two years. Liverpool’s poor season can be apportioned to most of the above mentioned squad for last years performances, but the team is made up of 16 players every week and everyone should hold their hand up and admit to playing poor, and that includes Stevie Gerrard.

With so many players destined to be allowed to leave the one real big question is still looming, who is running our club?

Was Hodgson employed to start the re-building work we so desperately need to make our club great again or was he just another yes man with no real proven Premiership credentials that will eventually take all the flak when the s**t hits the fan.

£15 million was originally set aside for new players, but we will need a minimum of £50 million to replace letting go 6 or 7 players, plus this will not allow us the time to provide substance and depth to try and sustain a challenge to get back into the top four this year; we need to consolidate and build with possibly integrating a few youngsters into the squad, not bring in over age nobody’s who are worse then what we have already.

With 5 weeks to the start of the season, can someone from the club please come forward and tell us the truth, Mr Broughton you have came out with some encouraging comments at the press conference when introducing Roy to Liverpool which gave us hope of a new beginning, now you need to prove that the blue Chelsea blood that you have has not affected your so called running of our team and that the money generated is not given straight back to the yanks.

Tell the supporters the real truth!

Liverpool obviously didn’t need to sell Benayoun, but he wanted to leave as he felt unappreciated by one Mr. Benítez. So what is your problem with that?

Then you should not believe every rumour that comes up. Funny how you only seem to have an eye for the rumours concerning players leaving and not for those coming in (bar Scharner). If all those rumours were right, we’d have (to give you an example) Banega and Defour instead of Mascherano and Lucas. I don’t have too many problems with that.

  • Rememory says:

“seem a sham with Yossi Benayoun comments in the weekends newspapers that a deal was already done with Chelsea after Rafa Benitez had departed.”

Benitez agreed the ammount with Chelsea, then he left, there was nothing the club could do after that other than watch as Yossi entered into negotiations for a contract, and then sign it.

  • Andy says:

A poor article Mike. I can’t wait to see the current owners go but this comes across as an ill thought-out rant.

As anteater says, you should not believe every rumour you see in the media and Benayoun wanted to leave. Do you think we should have forced him to stay against his will?

  • Jambo says:

If Mascheranho wants to leave, why keep an unhappy player? Added to that Lucas Leiva, Emalino Insua, David Ngog, Albert Riera, Diego Calvaleri and Yossi, if we could get close to £55m for alls these then do it. None of these players are liverpool class or should have represented LFC. Defour and Banega would be start, add Ardan Turan, a left back and a striker then we look much better!!

  • ray says:

Can you please advise us as to whether TODAY is the date Mr Broughton has set aside for the tendering process to begin in earnest i e Real bids from prospective buyers – Please Confirm. I realise that the process can continue for a few more weeks but is this the day LFC expects to start receiving proper bids ??

  • Blindside says:

Some may remember that I posted a comment several weeks ago on what would happen to LFC between April and September. There were 3 points only and the 2nd was that the board would sell all players that they could and use the money to lower debt.
This is exactly what is taking place at this moment so no surprise there!!!

  • RedMist!!! says:

This is not an isolated incident!

When Rafa came to these shores Cisse was already onm the books and Heskey had just been sold!!!

  • smarts says:

I think the bidding starts tomorrow!
Jambo you got the right idea for the additons we need. Turan, Defour, Mata or Benega, Tiawo for the full back position. Use Babel and Kyut as additional strikers with Milan.

  • Jonski says:

I agree with Anteater on this one. Why are you worried about players we are being linked with it is the classic tansfer silly season, we are being linked with James Bettaie also but it doesn’t mean we will sign him. I will worry when quotes from our club our attributed to these players. Also Yossi wanted to leave he wasn’t sold behind anyones back it was agreed BEFORE Benitez left, Yossi said so himself. On the one hand you are saying we should get back to the way we used to be were nothing leaked out, now you are saying tell us everything., Some people need to get a grip and decide what it is they want.

  • King torres says:

If benayoun left because of benitez why did he go after rafa had been sacked? That line is total bull. Yossi left 4 a better pay packet and the club cashed in and also left with a company line 4 the press. Anyone who accepts that is a fool. If he would have stayed would have been in roys team every week.week.

  • anteater says:

King torres, the deal was agreed before Rafa left. Didn’t you read what Benayoun had to say the other day. Maybe you are the fool and not everyone else. Ever thought about that?

  • Zahir says:

anteater – Benayoun was just an average player. I challenge anyone to single out just one brilliant game during his stay. He was brought by Rafa so how could Rafa be against him? Beni was a greedy parasite and left for money. Rafa was long gone by then and Beni could have changed his mind. SG changed his twice well into Chelsea’s lap. So to Hell with Beni. What is your problem with that? Too many ants gone to the head? But all other sale proceeds must come to Roy if he has the guts to stand up to T&H and the evil Purslow. For now it seems, the owners/Purslow are in a comfort zone; the resistant Benitez gone; the obedient Roy happy to live on crumbs. Then the likes of you to clap for the wicked trio!!!

  • samuel charles says:

    IF WE STUDY JUST THE PLAYING SIDE;

1, yossi was a great squad player, however he only ever really was that good the seasson when we came in second and he had at the very best 3 months of great form. end off, for the days he his been at liverpool we have had almost constant bullshite about moving and my agent this and my agent wants this for me, it got too much and for him to just jump ship to chlesea above all just tells you about the guy, and by the way the club have been good to yossi with him being able to play after having injury for us he then is given the green light to keep playing for his national team! he has no right to complain at all.
    with player sales as long as they are not gerrard and nando and reina carragher and johnson, and we use all the money we get to rebuild, i guess thats we have hope for. untill new owners we are treading water but if we can keep most of the team and sell the shite that we have;

sell; reira, babel, itandge, degen, insua, el zhar, plessies, nemeth, cavalerli, that lot with luck if we can shift these lot would bring us around £27 million pounds.

the next thing to do is hope that roy gets in 3/4 good players. and for me id like to see this, bearing in mind on lfctv they did say roy has been given just 10 million from the con men yankie cunts. see below my idea, this is without selling any big names.

    reina
    johnson carragher agger cissohko
    j.cole machserano banega turan
    gerrard torres

  • anteater says:

Zahir, still among the Rafa apologists? Rafa bought Alonso and practically forced him out of the club.

If Yossi had agread that deal then he should stand by his word. I can’t recall Gerrard already having agreed a deal, but I may be wrong.

BTW, the world may not be as black and white as you see it. Have a look outside. Are you by chance an extremist of the highest order? I didn’t clap for anyone so stop making things up. Only because someone has a different point of view does not mean that he is wrong. And let the ants be my problem. I could explain the choice of name to you, but doubt that could comprehend.

When Yossi got a decent run in the starting eleven he was one of very few to produce something of note. How you managed to not see that is beyond believe. It probably doesn’t fit into you agenda.

samuel charles, haven’t you noticed yet that Mascherano or Machserano as you prefer to call him wants to leave the club? Gerrard as a centre forward. Yeah, great idea. Are you Rafa in disguise?

  • samuel charles says:

however if it comes to the point where liverpool have had enough of mascherano who i love and then hate, then the club sells him for upwards of 30 mill then it might not be as bad as we think, if torres and gerro hang around and roy is given and good pre season, if the owners keep their word which is rare and let roy have all player sales and if we can then get off our arses and get deals down asap and with a bit of luck get hold of players who are no got yet world class but great pros with young talent who have been around for while playing well then liverpool will not win the league but we will be fighting back in their for a chance to get back to 4th spot or better, but at least we can fight.

    if mascherano goes then;
    thats 30 mill
add the 10 mill the con men owners have given roy
add that to around 27 mill player sales so with this lot in mind say we have around67 mill and thats going back into the team then we could just be about ok.

    REINA
    JOHNSON CARRAGHER AGGER CISSOHKO
    COLE BANEGA GERRARD TURAN
    CROUCH TORRES
WHAT A SIDE, YOUG FULL OF PACE DOWN BITH FLANKS, CREATIVE UP TOP WITH ATHE ABILITY TO GO LONG AND WIDE WITH GERRARD GOING INTO SPACE, COLE FLOATING DOWN THE RIGHT OR LEFT AS HE CAN DRIFT, TURAN IS WANTING TO PLAY FOR LIVERPOOL AS HE HAS SAID MANY A TIME, THATS WHAT WE NEED, PLAYERS THAT WANT TO PLAY FOR THE SHIRT, CROUCH KNOWS THE SIDE, CISSHKO IS GOOD AT RUNNING DOWN THE FLAK AND GOOD IN THE AIR TOO, EVA CAN RUN ALL DAY AND PRESS AND ALSO CAN PASS VERY WELL LONG AND SHORT, THIS SIDE IS BOSS

  • anteater says:

No need to SHOUT, samuel charles. Doesn’t exactly add any credibility to your ideas.

  • Mike76 says:

Guys, you are forgetting one thing. Earlier in the year Hicks said we would spend BIG this summer.

    Has he lied again??

We have to accept our club is now a joke, being run by clowns who don’t know what they are doing to the most successful English club ever. What a shambles and a disgrace.

Broughton, Hicks, Gillet, and especially Purslow need to go as soon as.

  • m kop says:

I am worried about the posibility of players leaving with Hodgson saying his hands are tied.

Did he came to prison or to manage a football club?

  • ray says:

Thanks for the info re bidding process Smats.I
hope we will have new owners soon . The rest of the e mails are very interesting but I cant help thinking that a few are missing the point – Roy has stated he wants to buy English – so I expect that many of the names mentioned to date are way off the mark. Are there any bargain English players ?? – Shanks bought Keegan and Clemence from Scunthorpe – Emlyn Hughes from Blackpool – FOR PEANUTS the great managers dont follow the herd

  • Mick Jones says:

Gent’s it’s great to see everyone so passionate about our club and the differing views about the good and bad side of things, the idea of the article was to get conflicting views and this has been achieved, whether or not you believe one rumour to the next is not the main point, even if you think the article is rubbish is not important, the players that reported to be leaving and want to go should be allowed, but, my concern is will we be any stronger in depth and quality in time to mount a challenge to get back into the top four.
Everyone’s idea of their own dream teams looks superb on paper, but the problem is they have to gel straight from the off in 4 weeks time. We need to be consistent from the off and sustain it to progress.
With certain committee members currently in place I’m not sure Hodgson will get the chance to work his miracle, sign good players and perform in time.
    Keep the comments coming though!
