As the Window Closes, Who will Roy decide to buy next?

|
Barca Bound.

When a Kiss Doesnt mean a thing...

OK, so Liverpool are not scoring many goals at present and yes this is some cause for concern.  Until we find a quality forward to play either alongside or as back-up to El Nino, the nagging doubts will remain that if Nando doesn’t ‘fire’ then we may find ourselves struggling.

The transfer window is closing – sooner than Roy would like, so red’s fans all over the world will be praying that LFC do some GOOD business. while writing this piece I’m scouring the web – all the football sites; marvelling at the variety of names linked with our club. Where do i begin??   Ricky van Wolfswinkel, Paul Konchesky, Mahamadou Diarra, David Trezeguet, Giampaolo Pazzini, Steven Defour and Carlton Cole!  The roll call is quite frightening, exciting & in the case of some of the names a little worrying, Mr Trezeguet – case in point.

Adios Chief!

At last there appears to be money in the gaffer’s pot – albeit proceeds from the sale of the ‘little chief’ who has achieved what he has desired since this time last year – a move to a Spain.  This will facilitate a better quality of life for Javier and his family – especially his wife whose command of English was known to be limited.  On arriving in South Africa for the World Cup Masch stated that he was learning Italian, a move that led fans to believe he was Inter bound for a reunion with Rafa.  Perhaps his linguistic skills are not that of the same caliber as his tackling & hounding ones!

Have Money..Will Spend

So where does the money go?  Clearly for the balance of the team a central midfielder is essential, don’t forget the Italian one has departed on loan to the ‘Old Lady’. We clearly need some creative threat coupled with someone that doesn’t mind the less attractive side of the game – the hounding, tackling and organising.  Step forward Raul Meireles.

Without doubt the most impressive of Portugal’s world cup squad, the ‘Echo’s’ Dominic King sums up the Porto man nicely:

“It is the swoop for Meireles that excites most; a combative player with excellent repertoire of passing, the 27-year-old has been courted by a host of Europe’s top clubs. “

There is no doubt that the Portuguese international will add a dimension sorely lacking since the departure of Xabi Alonso.  Securing his signature ahead of our rivals is a huge boost to the squad and the fans.

As my Blog progresses, so it appears does Paul Konchesky’s move north.  A player who served the manager well in his time at Fulham, he will provide the cover Liverpool have required at left-back all summer.  Some fans will question this move but we have to trust in Roy’s judgement.

Left back – check.  Central Midfielder – Check.  The most notable gap remaining is our quest for a forward.  I have stated recently Nando needs help.  As the summer has developed so to has my fear of signing West Ham’s  Carlton Cole.  Yes he is English, yes he knows the Premier League, but most importantly – NO he doesn’t score enough goals!

The Manager’s time spent coaching throughout Europe would suggest that perhaps PSV’s Ola Toivonen, Europa League opponent Ricky van Wolfswinkel or FC Twente’s Costa Rican hit-man Bryan Ruiz could be in line for a move to Anfield.

As well as the possible ‘ins’ there will inevitably be some players leaving.  Many names have been mooted, I just hope Lauri Dalla Valle isn’t one of them.

The chosen ’25’ will be known soon.

They should sell Babel and Lucas bring in Diarra Ruiz and Van wolfswinkel.

  • Jay Wright says:

we desperately need a pacey winger or there won’t be any space through the middle with which to create chances still – no point having a finisher with no chances being created for him…

Unfortunately lauri dalla valles reported move to fulham looks likely after according to many gossip sites he has passed his medical and the deal will be compleated when koncheskey arrives.

I have always been a fan of lauris and feel that he has never been given a chance despite his goalscoring record for finland u-19s and the lfc u-18s I hope that these rumours r just myths and if he does stay I wud like to c him given a chance.
