According to CaughtOffside.com, Liverpool are considering a move for Marseille playmaker Hatem Ben Arfa. Roy Hodgson is apparently looking at some last minute additions to his squad, and the website believes he has identified the 23 year old as a possible target. Despite helping the French club to the Ligue One title last season, Ben Arfa is deemed surplus to requirements by manager Dider Deschamps, and it is believed that Marseille will allow the player to leave. Newcastle United were rumoured to be attempting to capture the player on loan but the website states that Ben Arfa would be more attracted to a permanent deal on Merseyside rather than a loan move to the North-East. Despite his prodigious talent, Deschamps is looking to sell Ben Arfa to reduce the wage bill and fund moves for other players while Hodgson is looking to add more creative attacking talent to his squad.
