Broughton rejects FA approach

|

Liverpool chairman Martin Broughton has rejected an approach by the FA to become the Assocation’s new chairman. Sir Dave Richards has been sounding out potential candidates for the role and had enquired whether the British Airways and Reds Chairman would be interested in the position. Broughton has however declined to put his name forward, saying to the Guardian:

“I was asked if I would be prepared to put my name forward as a candidate for the job of FA chairman and I declined. When it comes to football my priority remains finding a suitable new owner for Liverpool.”

Richards, who is conducting the search as part of his role as Chairman of the professional game’s board, will now look elsewhere to find a successor to Lord Triesman.

So does that bode that his task is still to stretch ever on into the distant future? Sounds quite foreboding to me lads! No succour soon.
