Hoeness: Gomez was way out of their league financially

|

Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness has stated that Liverpool could not afford Mario Gomez, and believes that the Merseyside club are “at the end of the road financially:”

“We would have only considered allowing Gomez to go if Liverpool had been willing to buy him. But they are at the end of the road financially. The banks won’t give them any more money. There aren’t many clubs left with money to spend. Manchester City are one, but they can’t buy 100 players. I’ve often found players only make a breakthrough in their second year at a club. So we were convinced Gomez should stay with us.”

Gomez had stated he wanted to move to the Reds on loan to revive his career but Bayern prevented any such move.

Hopefully Hicks and Gillett are at the end of the road financially.

They just never grasped what it means to own a football club, what it means to own Liverpool Football Club.

Ok so they are businessmen and never were anything else. But their opportunism must fail and the bluff they played in purchasing the club looks like it has been called.

    D Day on 6th October.

I an’t wait till they are gone.
It is looking like RBS will take control of the club and sell it to someone who makes a reasonable offer.
It might not be someone in the financial bracket of Man City or Chelsea but it doesn’t matter too much because the one stipulation that will be made by RBS is that the clubs debts will have to be paid completely allowing a large amount of revenue previously earmarked for paying interest will be freed up forinvestment in to the club.
We may have to wait a few years for a new stadium but the club will progress in the meantime.

I can see Hoenesses point but the club is about to be sold and his wages could have been paid by the profit in the transfer market.
