Its a sorry day when we cannot afford a second rate forward

|

God, not again! Liverpool have once more failed to buy a proper back-up striker to Fernando Torres. Despite the change in management at the club, the same issues still remain, the need to provide cover for the brilliant yet injury-prone Fernando Torres. As Les Lawson so well put it on LFC.TV we have not bought a striker since we got rid of Robbie Keane 12 months ago and no new forward has come in since then.

With Liverpool panicked into player swap deals in an effort to bring an average goal-scorer in Carlton Cole to the club at the 11th hour, it showed how little money manager Roy Hodgson had to play with. Its a sorry day at Anfield when we cannot afford to buy a second rate forward in Cole, who only gets about 10 goals a season with the Hammers.

Maybe it is a blessing in disguise, with new owners, hopefully in by early October, then we can plan to bring in some top class players. We live in hope.

What a load of garbage, no new forward, I’m just happy we didn’t get Carlton cole and any other overrated flop! Why couldn’t we sign toivenon? Wolkswinkel? Then u see spurs get van der vaart for £8m?? Why didn’t we try and get him for that price! Again we sell one of our world class players, mascherano and through our sales have a positive net spend in the form of about £15m and that’s not including the normal £20-25m the owners shud be giving new manager to spend… Were’s the £20m striker we shud of bought? Torres gets Injured were f*cked! Typical and another top 10 finish!

why do our own fans keep saying Torres is injury prone. We only really did without him last season, when the whole team performed poorly.

Since we bought Torres, he’s not had a rest, first summer the Euros, next summer the stupid FIFA payday practice world cup then this summer the world cup. no wonder he breaks down, and more often then not while on International duty.

I think the new medical team in place, I hope we sent one of them with him to the Spanish Camp, he’ll play a lot of games for us this season.

Well we have a couple of second rate forwards already we dont need another but with the exception of Gomez Roys targets up front were 2nd rate.
I am talking about his last day targets in Pavyluchenko Cole etc etc would liked to have seen Toivonen Ruiz Gomez or Wolfswinkel join all have ability but are unknown quantities.

It just shows you and everyone else out there that these problems were as real and difficult for Rafa as they are now for Roy.
Rafa in his 2nd last season finished 4pts off the premiership title then in the summer when we needed to push on (just as Rafa said himself) we SOLD our best midfielder/playmaker and almost lost Mascherano to boot. Then in the new season he found all of his best players either unfit or off form (Carra; Johnson; Skyrtel; Gerrard; Torres etc.
I wish everyone would stop referring to Rafa & suggest he was a disaster HE WASN’T ANYTHING LIKE THAT. Yes he made mistakes but up until last season he steadily improved us in the league year on year. Maybe a change was needed but the most important change was in ownership and finances FIRST then the rest can follow….
In saying all that I do wish Roy every success but he has a HUGE job on his hands. He/We need Torres, Gerrard, Agger and Carr all fit & playing well to have any hope of 4th position this season.

we r a joke club champions lge we have no chance of finishing 4th every liverpool fan new our main aim in the transfer market was a forward & them f****** yanks let the whole club down again the quicker the yanks go the better even torres told them this morning to go f*** off yanks u r not wanted at our club

Thank god we never got C Cole, not for the swaps and money being put around yesterday. I think Pavluchenko would ave been better although I was looking forward to us announcing we captured Van Wolfswinkle or Ruiz!

players bought and sold or loaned. work out the figures for yoursevles, but remember loan deals would have paid us fees to. so that means, money coming in from every departure including loans.

I think times like this we would all like a few billion in the bank, to put our beloved club back where it belongs lets all hope someone does.

  • jason says:

I don’t really know what Roy are thinking. I would use the money on Macherano to buy a decent striker and not on Meireles as Misfield is nt priority as we have Poulsen, Lucas, others promising youngsters.

What is good of a midfield if there is no striker to score goals to win games.

Roy just don’t have the guts to stand up for himself, and i expected him to sacked after the liverpool takeover because he is just not good enough for Liverpool.

  • Simon says:

I completely agree with Billy. Why do we keep referring to Torres as being injury prone. Also, we have enough second rate strikers at the club without bringing in other substandard players. 20 goal a season strikers do not generally cost swet FA, so I’d sooner take my chances with N’Gog / Babel up front and see how we get on. Until Tweedle Dumb and Tweedle Dumber p*** off there’s know chance we’re getting anyone better

  • dj says:

i would suggest from the list above some £42 million plus has come in from player leaving and we’ve spent approx no more than £26 million on players arriving. dont forget the wages also being saved, thats without taking into account players sold in january(dossena, voronin and 1 or 2 others.

please tell me we are not being asset stripped.

  • Gazza says:

My guess is, no one is willing to put a bid on for the club at the moment and is seeing what the secured lenders plan to do to Kop Holdings Ltd when the current funding runs out in October. Huang had the right idea in trying to buy the debt off of the banks and then force a take over on the basis the company was insolvent (unable to pay the debts). The clowns at the top realise this and will just be wanting to reduce their debt to the club (reported at £140mil) and will not be putting any money into the club. Their shareholding is worthless as the value of the assets and goodwill in the club are less than the book value of the debt. Our club is like Portsmouth at the moment, and I hope and prey that the two banks do not extend their credit facilities again or this will never end!

  • daboy says:

Gazza my fear is that some bank or institution may refinance them and then the whole nasty business rolls on i dont know how possible that is though, given Hicks woes in the states.

  • Kacar says:

Again heading to another disappointing season. I have read few months a go at the and of the season comment on some article on internet. All the teams that have finished in front of us on table had 4 strikers in their squads. Right now it seems irrelevant – 2nd rated or top players. The point is we don`t have them. We don`t have options in front and replacement for Torres. IN TORRES WE TRUST. Maybe finally Ryan Babel will be given chance to play more often and prove that he is a good player.

  • anon says:

5th consecutive transfer window that we made a PROFIT.
From ending 2nd, when Rafa was right to say, everything had to be perfect for us to challenge, to when things were less than perfect last year, hence our poor finish.
I mean Roy well, but probably our biggest mistake, more so than not getting a backup striker, was letting Dalle Valle go to Fulham. If nothing else, he could have been the backup striker.

  • Greg says:

I think the reason why people say Torres is injury prone is becasue, um, he has a lot of injuries.
It’s his style of play – going hard out, challenging defenders, running as fast as he can, going in where it hurts. We love him for it. But it does take its toll. If we had someone good enough to rest Torres every 3rd game (say) it would be so much better for him. Roy knows that, and that’s why he was hunting around for strikers right up until the last moment.
