Were Reds offered Croatian striker?

|

Liverpool were apparently offered Hamburg striker Mladen Petric on transfer deadline day yesterday.  According to Tribalfootball, the Croatian’s agent Volker Struth admitted that they were trying to find the 29 year old a new club. Struth stated that the player was offered to Liverpool, Juventus and Schalke 04 but no bid for the player was successful. Petric has moved down the pecking order at Hamburg in recent months as the form of Dutch striker Ruud van Nistelrooy has kept the Croatian international out of the side.

Just as well really. The lad isn’t good enough for Liverpool FC, even in its current state.

  • Noblelox says:

Glad we didn’t take him, it is better to stick with what we have and maintain a bit of pride, rather than taking scraps off the table.

  • David says:

Umm..I think he better more than Zamora,Cole

  • Joe says:

im with david, why on earth are we sniffing round zamora and cole? two big lungering dopes. zamora had a good season last time out, and before that he wasnt much to brag about.

  • smarts says:

If he cant oust Van Nistelpants then we dont need him! Should have got Wolfy for cheap and tried to swap Insua with Turan plus cash!!!!

  • Eric says:

this guy’s way better than the likes of carlton cole and zamora and i mean WAY better. cole and zamora, they’re just two strikers up front who can hold the ball up but they have no skill and don’t score enough goals.

no excuse for it roy, even another loan would have helped, roy identified quickly rightly a left back and a striker as our main needs, a left back and two midfielders is what we got !
please dont let it be true he was after signing pavlechenko, morientes mark 2

  • stan howard says:

we are now one injury away from obscurity again, unless ngog improves another 100% more than healready has, its madness and maddening, however no real injuries to the big two and we can get a top four place

  • Kenneth says:

Sorry, but if we get top 4, I`ll run naked from Norway to Anfield. Our team lacks speed in every part of the team, and we do not have back ups. We have waited since Kewell glory days for a winger and since Crouchie for a striker. Once we had the worlds best sentral midfield (Sissoko, Hamann, Gerrard and Alonso), now we got Lucas and Poulsen. Fantastic. I love the team but i`m feeling sorry for Carra and Stevie. This is crap and we will be lucky if we are top 7 or 8.
Thanks to Hicks, Gillett, Purslow, Broughton and their new poppy Roy Hodgson. Thank you very much!!

Before you write the season off perhaps you should look at the schedule for Jan. & Feb. We should be able to win every match perhaps except Chelski. More positive vibes mates!

  • Rob A says:

Lets stay positive. The takeover will be done by January and the only justification for anyone taking over LFC is if they are prepared to invest…..if not, you can buy a middling Premiership team for a lot less. I don’t understand the criticism of Broughton – I’m not sure how else he could have run the process?

Roy knows his onions. We’ll be ok. The issues with the team (no 2nd striker, no pace on the wings) are evident, but can’t really be solved until the takeover happens and some real funds get released. It will be a tough season….just hope that there is enough light to convince Fernando to stick around come the summer….

  • Soebi says:

Cannot wait to see keneth & his sister runing naked from norway to anfield on summer 2011 🙂 … Come on mates think positive, give them a break, give roy a little faith..it’s too early to judge them

why v r looking for a new strikers?

we hv milan jnv , the serbian forward can link up well with torres .

    formation: 4-3-3

    reina

    jhonson, carrager , skertel, konchesky

    meireles, poulsen , gerrad

    cole, torres, milan

    sub;
    babel
    ngog
    kuyt
    agger
    lucas
    jones

  • xna.maldives says:

i dont know why u guys write down formations, cumon….. let Roy do it

well, RAUL will be a hit in the premiership

  • IrishRed says:

Petric is a good striker, he can score goals out and inside the box…better than ngog babel kuyt as a replacement for torres

  • Nivster says:

The squad is better than last year … we’ve got new blood in the team and a new manager who hasn’t had much time to work with the players. We can’t write off the season already.

I’m absolutely gutted we didn’t sign a good attacking player in the transfer market but Raul’s signing is a terrific one which came out of nowhere! To be honest the strikers we were linked with in the media didn’t excite me anyhow including this Croatian. We’re better off using what we’ve got for now with kuyt, Babel and ngog upfront with Torres.

Maxi needs to be played more too – he’s the best player we’ve got playing as a left/right attacker.

  • Karim says:

4-3-2-1 formation, bit of a christmas tree going on

    Johnson
    Agger
    Carra
    Konchesky
    Meirales, Lucas, Poulsen
    Gerrard Cole
    Torres

With this formation it means johnson and konchesky can dart forward at every opportunity. meirales and poulsen will look to cover the flanks and ping balls to gerrard and cole
lucas will the one given the task to break up play.
Torres is responsible for scoring goals

At home you would put Gerrard in the 3 and stick kuyt / jovanovic in the 2 behind torres.

cant see room for babel in this side and because Roy wanted to get rid of him, that shows no faith.

  • berno says:

No Champs league again unless we have a strong second half to the season and buy a decent striker in the next transfer window. No back up for Torres, Ngog, Kuyt and Jovanovic will not get 20 Premiership goals between then so over reliant again on Torres and his fitness, the declining Stevie G and a back line that has no pace in the middle. Happy days are not here again.

Petric is a great player.i actually dont watch german football that match, but by hearing that Petric has fallen out of Hamburg squad is something bad.if he cant play good for Hamburg at Bundesliga, what would he do at Liverpool and especially at premierleague, who we know is the hardest all over the world.i like the squad more than last year, roy has started to steady the squad and i am not that sad to see that we didnt buy a striker.we’ve been linked to Santa Cruz,Carlton Cole,Mario Gomez,..i would like only Toivonen..the others aint that good.i rate babel way better than them.when West ham fans heard that they are going to take babel and lose cole, they were all desperate for the transfer to happen!!Roy will make Babel a great player, and i dont think there is any lfc fan that thinks that babel doesnt have talent.babel has awesome pace,style,shots..i have faith in Reds and those who say that we will go worse than last year, dont be so sure.the prem just started, tottenham have lost to wigan, city to sunderland and aston villa to newcastle.we lost to man city 3-0.ok city were better but they werent that better.a 2-1 was way more fair and roy has started with many difficult games already.lets go Reds.next up Birmingham..we struggled last season, but now we will kick them!!
