“We have got to get used to the new players and the system”

|

Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina believes it will take time for the Reds to get used to all the changes at the club:

“It is going to take a while. We have got to get used to the new players and the system. Of course, our target is to be up there but we have to be realistic. We will find out at the end of the season what we can achieve. Maybe we all have to be patient. April and May is the time to talk about targets. We did not spend much money and sometimes in football it is important to do it. Unfortunately it’s going to be like this for a little while until we sort out the other (ownership) situation.”

The Reds keeper was in fantastic form as he made two excellent point blank saves against Birmingham City yesterday. Asked about how his recent mistakes against Arsenal and Argentina had impacted on him, Pepe said:

“How long did it take me to get over it? One hour. When you are a goalkeeper, you know that you will make brilliant saves and stupid mistakes. You have to handle everything that happens to you. Tomorrow, nobody will remember my saves or my mistakes. You just move on and play the next game as if nothing has happened. Sometimes keepers cost their teams points like I did in the first game; other times we get a bit lucky and pull one out for the team.”

Pepe is one of the best if not the best keeper in the world, better than Casillas, we are indeed fortunate to have him and he is dedicated to the Liverpool cause.
As for our performance at St Andrews – different day , different Manager same , same lethargic display, thanks to man of match Pepe, we got a point.RH should have replaced LL & FT earlier maybe we could have sneaked a goal and 3 points.

it’s just an excuse imo – the system has not changed at all since our terrible displays last season and the personnel hasn’t changed much either

The problem is that we’re sticking to a crap system that is not suited to the players, rather than that we’ve got a bunch of players learning a new system. On top of that, Hodgson has been far too passive in making changes to the team when we are clearly struggling to impose ourselves on a game
