Aldridge: His comments should be applauded

|

Former Liverpool striker John Aldridge has praised Joe Cole’s frankness and honesty about his own performances since joining the club in the summer. Writing in his column in the Liverpool Echo, Aldridge said:

“Other than Steven Gerrard and possibly Raul Meireles, very few Liverpool players covered themselves in glory at Goodison Park on Sunday. Straight after the game, though, Joe Cole played a starring role and his comments after what was such a demoralising afternoon should only be applauded. Supporters are not stupid and they know when players are not at the top of their game but, from time to time, you get some individuals who try to pull the wool over people’s eyes. Joe’s admission that he is experiencing the worst run of form in his career, though, made it clear that he is not interested in hiding and it took guts to make a statement like that after losing at the home of your biggest rivals.”

Aldridge believes Cole is a “victim of circumstance” currently:

“He has got the right attitude and so long as he keeps working hard, he will get his rewards sooner rather than later because his talent is there for all to see. Perhaps he is a victim of circumstance at the minute and being asked to fill a role on the left wing is not what many would have envisaged him doing at present.”

Good old Aldo – talking sense again – new owners could do a lot worse that getting Aldo on the Board – he is LFC through and through.Joe Cole will come good – and we wont have to wait long.

  • richard says:

we all are craving for cole, gerrard, torres, and even ngog to get some speedy counter-attacks going. i still think we will see joe shine by january, hopefully with a new manager

  • Roy says:

If you want ‘speedy attacks’, Jovanovic and Babel should play!

  • Neil says:

raul meireles was at least partly at fault for both goals on Sunday he should have been picking the run of cahill certainly

  • DaveWestAus says:

YOU are dillusioned if you think that ‘Joe Cole’ will be any good for LFC.I applaud his commitment to the ‘REDS’ but I just do not think he is the right player to help turn the tide in the ‘REDS’ favour! However I do hope he can prove me wrong ! I realise he is commited to what he believes he can achieve, and I would love to be proved wrong in my opinion!

  • Jay Wright says:

“His talent is there for all to see” – really?? I know everybody wants him to be a star, but I haven’t really seen anything from him to suggest that I was wrong in questioning his signing.

Put Babel and Jovanovich on either side of Torres in a three man attack and let Cole compete for a place through the middle (with Gerrard & Pacheco)

    • Discostu says:

You questioned his signing and then have the cheek to suggest that Babel and jovanovic should be staring alongside torres……enough said Jay!

      • Jay Wright says:

Discostu – yes, I questioned Cole’s signing as he was not a winger like we desperately needed and he was clearly not better than Gerrard through the middle. Nor was I sure that he was any better than Aquilani as a playmaker, and we also had Pacheco waiting to take his chance in that position, so for that reason I thought that going after Cole was pointless.

Now that we’ve got him, he is clearly flopping out wide, so should fall behind Babel and Jovanovich in the pecking order, who both at least have pace to offer the team. He is barely a goal threat so can’t be the second striker in a 4411, and consequently should be left to compete for a central position in a team with 3 forwards ahead of him.

Have a think about it mate and you’ll see it makes sense…

  • ehab says:

aldo was same person said rafa must go
see what inter doing to spurs
    see where liverpool now
    dumb pundits
was a failure as a coach
so all you rafa haters, don’t you feel stupid now

    • Jay Wright says:

the current European & Italian champions beat Spurs – so what??

Hodgson is proving himself to be a flop on the big stage – so what??

Does any of that have anything to do with the fact that Liverpool were shite last year and got rid of their manager because of it??

    • DinMat says:

Inter barely beat 10 man Spurs… Do you consider this as an achievement?

      • anfieldred says:

come on man did u see the game last night??? inter were 4 up at half time.. 2 of spurs goals were after the 90th min when inter stopped playing..

  • bill says:

Totally agrre with ehab above,Were are the get rid of Rafa clan now??? They were all wrong, look what we got in exchange for a world class coach,,Woy the penguin.Fergies best mate,no tactics,no clue goodbye Woy before you drag us to the Championship.

  • mavrick says:

let shelvey ,amoo, kelly and pachecoe play ,lucas, konchesky and poulsen should never be in the sqaud as for maxi r we might as well be playing with 10 men for 90 minutes

    • bajan scouza says:

Oh completely agree, Maxi playing as a winger (I presume) spent no time on the wing, Carragher was out there more than him, he was just crowding the midfield and it takes woy 75 mins to see it. He’s gotta go before he sinks us, he’s a saboteur for fergy. I was one for giving him a chance, but now he’s not even trying to speak up for his players (Torres to Manu… NEVA!!!) YNWA.

    • ed smeulders says:

AGREE,great post, the likes of Amoo(hello,a winger we have already, right under your nose Roy!!),Shelvey(Gerrards heir apparent),Kelly,Pacheco AND Wilson definately need to be promoted to the 1st team squad NOW.Drop to the reserves the under performers such as Maxi,Lucas,Konchesky and Poulsen for starters.Interim measures until Jan transfer window when Mr Rijkard will no doubt buy better quality, more attaking skillfull players to replace some of the sub standard players currently on the roster.

      • Jay Wright says:

Amoo isn’t ready yet (doesn’t have any finesse in his game, on or off the ball) but I would much rather see him given time to develop on the wing than Maxi or Kuyt. At least he has the prospect of developing, and the correct physical attributes to be a winger.

Babel, Johnson & Jovanovich are the only first teamers that should be playing on our wings. Once they’re injured/off form, we should definitely be throwing in the likes of Amoo/Bruna/Sterling etc and just hoping for the best, like other clubs are doing with their youngsters, instead of sticking with tried and tested ageing failures like Maxi & Kuyt

  • Jo says:

Thanx to Aldo and company clamouring for Rafa to go and shouting from mountain tops that Roy is what we needed, I suggest United fans should be more worried because there is a greater chance of Hodgson being their assistant manager once he has finished Fergie’s assignment at Liverpool to sell Torres to United while picking up a fight with Agger. We simply don’t do business with each as the Heinze affair showed, how then would Roy accept the threat of selling to United that hasn’t happened in over 5 decades unless he realises that its one of the last records he can break other than claiming the record of worst start to a season since the 19 century should we lose to Blackburn.

  • Rusty says:

Joe Cole should worry less about his comments in the papers and start performing at a level which is less than an order of magnitude below his capabilities. He’s playing like he belongs half way up the table in the second division. I know it, he knows it. Only he can change it.

  • ken08 says:

Inter got caught THREE times down the left by a
great Gareth Bale powerhouse run ?? (thought Johnson
had transferred to inter for a mo)Is that not what Babel could do for us?? even if it is that he cuts in at the end to keep it on his right peg,
but none the less Spurs where taken apart in 14mins
of great football, since Roy came have we had TOTAL 14mins of good football.

  • tee somethang says:

cdole will come good but not under roy hodgson, fire the loser now

  • Adrian says:

Cole will come good, but i dont think he should be playing on the wing, i think he should be playing behind torres and have jova on the left

with our team looking something like:

    Reina
    Kelly/Johnson, carragher, agger/skrtel, konchesky

    kuyt/pacheco, mereiles, gerrard, jova

    cole

    torres

  • dreyya says:

got to try johnson as r/w kelly r/b,keep the greek in cd,excellent threat, with corners, must play 442 against blackburn,if roy dos`ent,i think he will be gone before end of november, sam will be all out attack,on sunday, lets hope the tactics are attack, attack,no more excuses roy or the team.
