Borrell: There are FOUR players who could make it

|

Liverpool U18s coach Rodolfo Borrell believes that four players that have played at Under 18 level could make a good impression in the professional game, and could make the progression to the first team. He said to Liverpoolfc.tv:

“Andre Wisdom is showing big standards and then there are the likes of John Flanagan, Jack Robinson and Tom Ince. There are several players making progress towards the first-team. Of course, I’m pleased about that because my main target is to develop players. That is what I have been doing all of my life and that is why Liverpool brought me here.”

Borrell also stated he admires the tenacity of Scouse players:

“I don’t know all of the players across the country, but I admire the characteristics of a Scouse player, he has something special. He is a player that learns quickly, is very competitive, aggressive and disciplined. He is always ready to fight for his team. I don’t think that is the case for every player in England, I think there is something different about Scouse players. We are investing a lot more in players from around Liverpool. I am happy with all of our Scousers – but if you ask me if I see players with that extra special talent, like Lionel Messi, then I have to be honest. I do not see anyone of that calibre. But we have players with some good ingredients that with the right focus and hard work, will go through and be competitive for the first-team of Liverpool.”

The Spanish coach has also said about how happy he is living in Liverpool:

“Sometimes if I have two days off – which doesn’t happen often – I like to get out and see some of the country. I’ve been to York, Conwy, the Lake District… Many years ago I visited Britain for 25 days and went to the Isle of Sky, Glasgow and Inverness among other places. It was me and three friends who drove here in a car from Barcelona. As you can see, I’m not a typical Spaniard. I don’t desire to go home when I have time off. Last season, I only went home for one week to see my family over Christmas. I think that shows how happy I am here. I have recently had a son and I wanted him to be born in Liverpool so that I will always remember my time here. I’m really proud I have a Scouser as a son! I spoke with my wife and we did discuss the possibility of him being born in Barcelona. But we finally decided to have him here. It was more my decision I suppose but I am really happy with it. I want my son to always remind me that I have been a part of a club that has one of the greatest histories in football.”

Classy guy, reminds me of another Spainiard that feels or felt the same way but was treated unjustly.

  • Daz says:

Its nice to know that the Spanish guys in the background did not cut and run when Rafa went. It is also nice to hear them speak with such honesty and affection for the club and city.

I hope people have made them feel welcome..

Agree there Vinny, wish we still had that guy at our club.

    maybe a guse of those who could make it is;

    1, Jesus Fernandez Saez (Suso)
    2, Daniel Pacheco
3, Raheem Sterling( sigend form qpr only just under half a year ago.)
    4, Daiel ayala

  • Rafa says:

    It’s me!

  • Tom says:

Yep well said mate, i agree with your comments well done Radfa deserves to come back….

  • Greg says:

Despite the headline, I don’t think he’s saying here that only the four players mentioned will make it, or that these four definitely will. He’s just saying that Ince, Wisdom, Flanagan and Robinson are on the right track. I’m sure he’d say this about others in the squad too (like the ones Samuel Charles mentions above.)

  • Jay Wright says:

    tbh, I’ve never noticed Flannagan.
Coady & Irwin look the best of the home grown lot, while Shelvey, Wisdom, Suso, Ngoo & Sterling currently look the best of the imports.

It’s sad to have to admit it, but tbh it looks like Pacheco has already begun to stagnate after being held back for too long, and may fail to blossom into the player that he was supposed to be for us.

That’s another major reason that we need somebody like Riijkaard to come in, with the courage and conviction to bring through talented youngsters into the first team, instead of just having them all rotting in the reserves while a bunch of average old timers hold onto their places with no fair competition from within the squad

  • DAVIE says:

All fair comments above give youth a chance & drop the big time charlies into the reserves. Maybe that will make them realise what effort they have to put in when they collect their big salaries. We need a different manager, Woys not for us plus he talks the biggest lot of pish ever.
