Could this towering Spaniard take the pressure off Torres?

|

He once again impressed me while playing for Bilbao against Zaragoza last night scoring with another headed goal to put the Basque side 2-0 up. He currently has a tally of 4 goals in seven games this season, and if he continues this hot streak, he will be in much demand when the transfer window opens in January. It would of course depend on how much Liverpool are allowed to spend by new owners New England Sports Ventures, as well as how high Llorente’s asking price is by then, but with the system of 4-2-3-1 that the Reds generally employ, the 25 year old striker could fit in ideally to the system we play.

Currently the biggest problem we have is that we are not cutting through opposition defences to create chances. Although Torres is excellent in the air, he is more inclined to run in behind defenders than to hold up the ball in the air and bring others into play. Llorente has a wide variety of attributes; he has good ball control, an excellent shot but his aerial ability is second to none. It would give us another option to either whip in balls from wide more regularly knowing that somebody will invariably get their head on them, or to use him on long diagonal balls to flick on to other attackers or to hold up the ball and off load to set up another attack. It is something we have missed since Peter Crouch left, and Llorente gives you an added capability of scoring a greater number of goals than the Englishman. For me, if we had the money, he should be a priority along with two wingers in the January transfer window.

  • Spike says:

Cracking player hence the 36million euro buyout clause in his contract. The usual suspects in Spain are looking at him also.

  • di says:

Fernando Llorente. A gang of us have been talking this afternoon about who should come in the Augment Torres up front and Llorente was the final choice. HEis big strong and a good goal scorer. Spanish which will suite Torres. Anyone not sure about him should watch La Leaga ans Spain. He scored last week.

er have been saying that for the last year and then mugs like this web page suddenly com out and try and ontorduce it as a subject matter, while in fact i think you will find i have said this player many times as one that we need?? dear god about 1 year to late with some!!!!!

As good as he is he is not english and has never been coached by Roy.
Even if we should stummble upon him like Meireles he will probably be played as a left back or something…

  • phil says:

He is a great player and perfect for Torres. I also think he’s looking for a big club to sign for. However it would mean a change in formation and I’ve got a funny feeling, if Roy is still here, that we want a hold up man like him, who can also play deep or on the wing. I read Kessling used to play deeper and I think he’s probably the more likely one.

  • Omar says:

I think Llorente and Luis Suarez are the only two strikers that should be considered to parter Fernando. He is a world class player and needs world class talent around him.

  • joe king says:

Yes please and Vucinic as well.

  • eddy says:

yes with the description i hope this guy will fit in the anfield boys, so we should better go for him fast before too late please i beg on the authorities.

  • DAVIE says:

Hes like Crouch was for us big, strong & a target man. We def somebody no wonder Torres looks pist off. We also need creation in midfield & a stronger defence i just hope the new owners part with Roy before any transfers hes not for us. No disrespect Roy you should be taking kids across roads!!

  • halim belaiboud says:

he is tall strong and know how to score i would love to have him at liverool that’s the new start he is only 25 years we sould get him fast real madrid are after him next year they talk about him last week i watche him every weekend the kid is very good but roy hodson dont like good players he like carlton cool he cant even start for west ham his garbag

  • stan h says:

is torres muscle bound, have the sports scientist’s had him doing weights, looks like it.

  • Jacko says:

Yes wld b a good signing if we got him before th big clubs i mean “big clubs” Real, madrid has also taken a note of ths player. I dont think if Roy stays and we are at th bottom half of th table any world class with Quality wld like to come liverpool. Pls Roy we beg resign frm ths job u r nt th right man.

  • Voland says:

Too late I’m afraid. Last season, when Rafa was looking at him as a possibility, Llorente was still making a name for himself. This season however his star has really taken off and both Real and Barca are gunning for his services. The Spanish press is mooting a price that meets his exit clause, a staggering €36 million.

  • daboy says:

At this moment i really believe they need to bring in a new defensive mid for Poulsen and Lucas a left back and two wide attackers.
With an extra striker this is a tall order in a January window.

  • juez says:

I doubt Roy will buy expensive striker since the club he coached before never give him a lot of money.

So I think Roy will only buy cheap striker, not more than 15M..

I hope this will not become true.

  • The Master says:

Woy will only look at players like, Routledge Brunt and anyother midtable performer who should never get into a Liverpool team. Would Man U or Arsenal be linked with Routledge?? Never.

Mid table mentallity, we need a better manager, younger and much more attack minded, rather that then any signings.

  • JJ says:

Yes he would be good but if Rooney wants out and wants to stay in England then I would love the new owners to put there money where their mouth is and offer £50million for Wazza , him and Torres would be a perfect partnership.

  • rassell says:

    yes please
