LFC: A Group of World Cup Stars Without Direction

|

The signs are looking ominous as we approach what is considered the season shaping period for the Liverpool Football Club. During this period we will come across a determined Everton side who will no doubt be looking towards this derby to kick-start their miserable season. In this period, in what is our worst season in recent years, we need to stand up and be counted. For too long us the supporters have been suffering by this inferior standard of play by our players. On paper this current squad should be able to beat any team in the league, and should not be sitting in 18th position.

However, unfortunately this is reality, and in it, our team has not proven that they are capable of finding a winning form that will be needed to take them out of this ‘hole’ they find themselves in. With the likes of Torres, Gerrard, Reina, Kuyt, Johnson, Meireles, and Maxi, all of whom figured prominently for their country in the recently concluded Fifa World Cup in South Africa. However, what they have been showing for their club is that they are a team with no guts or gall. In addition the lack of vision displayed by Roy Hodgson has hurt us greatly. It’s now time for these players to start earning their mega bucks.

Like many LFC supporters I too am losing faith in Hodgson’s ability to lead us out of this doldrum. I think he lost the script when he failed to secure a striker during the transfer window. While it is clear that Hicks and Gillett started our current situation, I am not satisfied on blaming them only, I think the entire team, most of all the coach, should bear the same responsibility and should be professional and do their jobs to get us out of our current situation. Indeed the players are paid huge wages to play ball and that they should do.

I have been a Liverpool F.C supporter since the mid 80's, I fell in love with this club when I saw the likes of Ian Rush and John Barnes play. I hold a Law degree from the University of London ,and a Bachelors of Science Degree from the University of the West Indies.

I must admit I’m surprised the Liverpool fans en masse are having a go at Tom & George. They may not have bottomless pockets but they have loaned the club a significant amount of money to fund Rafa’s quirky transfer policy.

Yes, they also piled the club with debt, but the club was still able to carry that debt, the same way that Man U do, the club itself is not insolvent.

Its Rafa who is to blame for the club’s current position, he is the one who bought average players to the club, who bought and sold 100 players in five years (is that a record?).

Liverpool need a settled side, not one that is changing every week / month / year.

The new guy will be putting less money into the club, yes he will be paying off the debt, but that money is going straight to RBS, not LFC and he will be expecting the new manager (the one after Roy’s departure), to run the club like a business, to keep wages and squad numbers down whilst competeting in at least two competitions (if you are a business man you will focus on what makes the money, so it will be the PL & the CL).

He will expect the club to do all this by funding itself, and to be fair, with Liverpool’s income it should be able to do this.

Rafa had his faults, but hodgson had a great opportunity to move the club forwards over the summer but instead exacerbated those problems.

It was Hodgson that decided to hold onto Mascherano until the last minute and then be forced to accept a minimal offer; Hodgson decided to LOAN our big money signing out (with a reduced fee agreed if the guy does perform) with an aged cast-off being sent the other way; Hodgson decided to refuse a very good offer for the 29 year old limited workhorse that is Kuyt; Hodgson decided that the strikers that were available on the market were not good enough; Hodgson decided that the only significant transfer that he wanted to make was on a central midfielder that he wanted to use on the wings; Hodgson decided to offer Joe Cole massive wages to take over Gerrard’s position; Hodgson decided that it was not worth looking at some new talent to freshen up our wings after letting Riera go for a ridiculous sum.

Hodgson does not deserve to be given the opportunity to right the wrongs which he should never have made in the first place

@ sack the juggler:- Are you high? Rafa might have bought and sold 100 players but we have made a profit on player sales in the last three season.

You think united will be able to carry their debt for much longer? why haven’t they made a big signing in years. Despite selling ronaldo for a ridiculous sum?

United are going to have to pay out 815 million when their bond mature in 2017, wheres that money gona come from? there still 200 million in debt now even after the bond sale. united reportedly make £80 million per year, so in 7 years thats £516 million. which isn’t enough to repay the bonds and thats assuming they don’t make any signings.

and somehow i don’t think gigs has another 7 years left in him.
