Reds chasing TWO strikers in the January window?

|

The People is reporting that Liverpool are still interested in both West Ham’s Carlton Cole and Atletico Madrid’s Diego Forlan in the January transfer window. The paper believes that manager Roy Hodgson is earmarking targets with the £30million he is rumoured to have to spend with both Cole and Forlan being leading candidates. Cole is currently struggling to fit into West Ham manager’s Avram Grant’s plans and Hodgson believes the player could give Liverpool an added aerial threat up front. It is also suggested by The People that Hodgson wants to bring in two British players with Cole being one and Ashley Young being another target. In addition, Hodgson believes, according to the paper, that 31 year old Forlan could add some firepower to the team and he has prioritised him as his leading target for January. The Uruguayan has expressed recently his desire to return to the Premier League after a six year absence but there maybe stiff competition from Tottenham and Everton.

This is a load of crap Cole is a waste of money and Forlan is a pensioner.

  • doublechunk says:

Please no! we could do with 2 decent full backs first to stop giving silly goals away. If we are going to buy a forward to help out torres, surely there is better out there with £30m to spend than Carlton Cole. Forlan is a big risk, outstanding in Spain but I still remember him for Man Utd and if he hasn’t developed to play in England week in week out he could be a shocker!

I can live with and like both Forlan and Young but absolutely not Carlton Cole. If we end up playing 4-4-2 then Cole for under 8m would be worth it but otherwise, NO!
Would rather we went after Dzeko, Coentrao, Shaqiri and Moussa Sissoko.

  • Daz says:

    Ashley young yes…

  • gaga says:

    rubbish players

  • Den says:

Carlton Cole!! No thanks, not at any price. A strike rate of 27 goals in 114 PL appearances in the last 4 years is not good enough, even for a mid-table team striker.

  • Aayush Sood says:

forlan cud b agr8 buy for us….remembr wt laarson did for manutd??
if torres stays den torres n forlan wud b gr8..but if torres leaves, den in place of forlan we shud get lorente, n aguero….wid d torres money n d budget dt wud b possible..YNWA

  • steve mcauley says:

prior to the take over i would’ve said yes to cole but with new money i think we should be aiming a little higher, llorente would be my choice!
ashley young, DEFINATELY and mata or turan for the other flank

    • chunky says:

Yes we could take Young on and let him spend most of his time in the treatment room! They are selling him because he is a crock..only an idiot like RH would think of buying him. As for Cole it doessn’t need saying.

  • danger mouse says:

Forlan is class but only at a good price because he’s too old to justify a hefty fee and out squad is ageing as it is. Ashley Young would be a good signing but i would amuse me more if we got stevie P from the nighbours for free or buttons. Also Affelay is class.

We need s decent manager before we can get decent players. Which top international players are going to be excited at the prospect of playing for Roy

  • Michael Gib says:

Please get a decent striker – not Carlton Cole who can not even perform in a poor club or Diego Forlan who is in the twilight of his career. We need to get someone with career projection and of a suitable quality and Carlton Cole is definitely not suitable quality.

  • smarts says:

Please do not go anywhere near Carlton Cole he is not quality enough! Ashley Young, Turan, Mata, Tiovinen, Wolfswinkle, Taiwo, Bengea, Defour and Llorente. This is the types of player we need.

  • Eric says:

With new investment why is Hodgson still aiming for someone of Carlton Cole’s class? Forlan, a bit too old but would still do us good for 2 or 3 years. We probably also need another creative player, someone like Affelay or Hamsik would be good choices

  • gharib says:

carlton cole is not our type. forlan is good but short term player. roy must buy quality not quantity that will keep our star players. we need player like benzema, hamsik, cordozo or lorente up front to partner torres. 1 midfilder like darfour or javi matinez. a. cole will be good additional or mata. left back n central defender should be given priority as koncheski not good enough while carra is getting older.

  • Nacho says:

I am all for Forlan., not for carlton cole.waste of money.even ngog better than him.but forlan is a good team player.workhorse.He is proven striker,FACT!

  • STEVIE G says:

Go for double swoop, Forlan and Aguero HAHA

Nah but seriously, we should sign:

    1. Forlan
    2. Mata
    3. Banenga

  • jefriez says:

    no!!no!!stupid u roy!!!!

  • daboy says:

I cannot see Roy spending any more money on crappy old players, that puts Forlan out and i pray no Cole.
I would like Kiesling or Hulk from Porto.

  • aramasax says:

For Pete’s sake NOT Carlton COLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Forlan YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.

  • ruben says:

keep the money for the new coach as RH is clueless in buying players. Why a lot of fans criticised KYRGIAKOS he is a top player very athletic a fighter always give 100%

  • samuel charles says:

Forlan while being one the top scorers for nearly 4 years since being in la liga and picking up the golden shoe for last seasons best goal tally is a very good player. he can do it all, but i do worry regards the investment long term, he is not young any more and for me its not worth paying 15-20 mill for a guy who has no more than 3 years left maybe at best at the top level, the smart investment would be younger player like llorente.

carlton cole is no more than a reserve team frontman for a team like west ham, hence why he hasnt started more than 4 games this year, no tanks with cole, very over rated and doesnt give us anything different where as llorente would play well with nando…
