Time for these FOUR players to step out of Torres’s shadow

|

Being a Liverpool fan at the moment is a truly painful experience. It’s hard to even talk about football in general because it will only bring to mind the current plight of the team I’ve loved since I was seven years old. There are many different theories flying about on why Liverpool are doing so badly, ranging from it being Roy Hodgson’s struggle to manage a big team to the fault of the owners while some are even blaming the departed Rafa Benitez.

One thing that is for sure is that Liverpool need to pick themselves up from 18th and start to play like we know they are capable of. With the transfer window closing too soon for us to be able to acquire a suitable striker a lot more pressure has fallen on the shoulders of Fernando Torres to be the main source of goals. He is now injured and is very likely to miss our Merseyside Derby match against Everton, which leaves the question: who can we rely upon to fill the void left by Torres and lead the line against a very tough Toffees side (who strangely have also had a horrible start to the season).

The candidates for the position are David Ngog, Dirk Kuyt, Ryan Babel and finally, Milan Jovanovic. David Ngog has actually had a decent start to the season and is already more respected by pundits now than he was for the whole of last season. He’s capable of putting in a good shift every now and then but still has some way to go in proving himself as a reliable understudy to Fernando Torres.

Dirk Kuyt was originally bought as a striker with a huge reputation in Holland for being a deadly finisher. Since coming to Liverpool he seems to have lost his shooting boots but he has still earned himself respect for his hard working displays on the right side of Liverpool’s midfield.

If we can give Voronin a chance certainly we can give Jova a chance! Play him Roy and see how it goes. It can not be worse than what we have seen, can it?

THIS IS WHAT I POSTED TO SOMEONE ELSE, YOU SHOULD READ AND SEE WHY 4231 IS THE BEST OPTION, AND SOME OF THE REASONS WHY HODGSONS TACTICS ARE NOT WORKING

I disagree; Mereiles should be played with Lucas behind Gerrard in a 4-2-3-1. It’s clear to anyone with football knowledge that gerrard is tactically inept and often vacates his position to the detriment of the team. He is guilty of too many Hollywood balls often giving away possession. He would be better utilised in the hole in a free role, because he just doesn’t have any game intelligence. I include Lucas because everyone can now see he‘s a better option than Poulson, and with Mereiles that is a more fluid line up.

Now with regards to Johnson, I think you’re harsh in your assumption he’s rubbish. Johnson will not perform until we have a more mobile centre half beside him. That would mean removing Carragher and replacing him with Skyrtl which will allow the team to push higher up the field helping Johnson when he’s attacking. We play to deep because Carraghers lack of pace, and Johnson is often caught out because the defensive line is always too far behind the play.

So I would play Johnson, Skyrtl, Agger and Aurelio (hopefully when fit) at the back with Mereiles and Lucas in the midfield with Gerrard in front just behind Torres. Out wide I would play Cole and Kuyt. This I believe is a good enough team to get us out of trouble we’re in, if they are given the right instruction to press high up the field and not give the opposition any space.

The players you mention, should they be transfer listed you would probably be surprised by the teams that would come in for them. It’s not the players it’s the tactical instruction they receive from the manager.

Therefore this is Roy fault completely.

    LOL

YOUR REASONS FOR NOT USING 4-2-3-1 IS BASED ONLY ON THE FACT THE STRIKER, WHOEVER HE MAYBE GETS LONELY.

I WOULD LOVE TO SEE YOU GIVE THAT TACTICAL SPEECH AT ANFIELD.
