When will this summer signing finally come good?

|

I’ll never forget the day it was announced that Liverpool had signed Joe Cole on a free transfer. Until then, conflicting news stories were being released daily each claiming that Cole had chosen to sign for a different club. Right up to the day before we signed him I refused to believe the breaking stories that Joe Cole had agreed terms with Liverpool. He had after all ‘agreed to sign’ for both Arsenal and Tottenham within the space of a week according to these same publications.

Seeing it become official though shocked me and filled me with extreme excitement for the season that lay ahead. Fast forward three months though and we’re still waiting to see anywhere near the best form from a man who helped Chelsea win three league titles. You have to cut Joe Cole some slack though as he’s come into a team clearly struggling on and off the pitch. As he may have noticed by now, when you are playing in a good team at the top of their game, everything just seems to go for you, while in a struggling team it is a lot harder to impose your individual creativity onto matches.

Cole’s performances so far have been inconsistent to the point that certain ‘experts’ are beginning to believe that Chelsea got the better deal when they signed Yossi Benayoun effectively for £6 million plus Joe Cole. Of course anyone with decent football knowledge would tell you that Joe Cole is miles better than our former Israeli playmaker, especially if you compare what they’ve both achieved during their careers.

The undoubted highlight of Joe Cole’s short time at Liverpool so far has been his encouraging performances in some of our Europa League games. He hasn’t really had a chance to impose himself in our league campaign due to his red card on the opening day disrupting his start with us domestically. Opponents seem to have recognised Cole as a threat and have therefore set about closing him down constantly during matches and limiting his overall contribution so far.

i think your second paragraph sums it up, when you are in a team like chelsea, surrounded by quality players in every position, of course you are going to look good and, don’t get me wrong, i think joe IS a great player but at liverpool he only has 3 or 4 truly great team mates, therefore he’s not going to look as good! hopefully now, with the new owners, we can bring in some higher quality players, players fit to play along side the likes of cole, gerrard and torres and maybe then we will see the real joe cole

Was i the only one NOT excited by Coles arrival? Chelsea are’nt stupid, seen he was past his best and got rid. We got shot of Aquilani and turned down Van der Vaart for him, what’s that all about?

  • sparq2112 says:

    No, RDV turned us down.
Along with a whole host of other players.

Hopefully the sale of LFC will readdress us being looked upon as a joke.

Liverpool losting matches bcz of giving away penalties caused by bad defending. . We dont need to spend four hundred millions to revive our club. . Four good signing again wil put us on top. . Ppl stop blaming tores . . He rarely get chance to score. . Glen jonson is not at al defender. . He should stop tryin to score goal . N defend properly. . Bcz of him we lost important points against two teams. . N without playing two striker its impossible to play attacking football. .

YOU MUST KNOW THAT ROY IS A BAD MANAGER.HE DOESNT KNOW WHERE AND HOW TO FIELD JOE COLE,WORSE STILL RAUL,MERELES.WHY DID HE BUY THEM THEN?JOE COLE IS BRILLIANT.HE HAS A BAD MANAGER.LOOK AT RAUL MERELES,BRILLIANT PLAYER BUT AT LIVERPOOL YOU WOULD THINK HE IS SOME LUCAS OR SOMETHING

  • Jay Wright says:

Roy, no you are not the only one that was not excited by cole’s arrival.

I wanted a couple of specialist wingers bought for the wide roles, not yet another player that is not suited to playing out wide but is stuck out there to accomdate his place in the team as he is not as good as Gerrard in the role behind the striker
