A lack of cover but maybe no January signings? I hope not Roy

|

Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson made these two slightly contradictory statements in his press interviews yesterday:

-“I don’t know what we will be able to do in January. We could even find a situation where, because we know it’s a bad market to buy in, the owners would prefer just to see this season out, and we keep trying to do what we are doing, then really make a big effort in the summer. We are quite clearly short of the players we need to give us adequate cover in attack. That is an area that really needs addressing, but whether it happens in January or the summer remains to be seen.”

-“I’ve been saying since the very first day there are a couple of areas where we’ve got to look for help in the January transfer window because I do think we’re not as strong as a squad at the back or right up front as we are in midfield or the second centre-forward areas.”

The long and short of it is that Roy would desperately like to shore up areas of the team during the January transfer window but is unsure whether the American owners would sanction moves for players deemed to be over priced or not value for money. The January window is generally seen as panic buying time for those clubs desperately trying to avoid the drop. It rarely succeeds with the only real memory I have of it working being Harry Redknapp’s transfer splurge at Portsmouth back in 2006. Certainly there are many over priced players in the market during the month of January and Roy is probably quite right to be wary of stating categorically that he wants players in January when NESV have stated clearly themselves they will only buy the right players.

the market in jan is pants and never does a team find a world cladd star for sale at any sensible price! but its clear need liverpool need to do two things.

1, make a statement of intent to show that we can still buy quality players.

2, the fact that in 4 markets we have left torres well sort of help up top, its clear that most top sides do not have just one great striker and a young 1.5 mill young french kid as back up. kuyt can help but is no the long term striker we need, pay out now for a stiker to etither play with nando or act as a link man and can also operate wide, if i was dreaming for a marketing point and a player that would cover nearly 3 roles in one transfer it would be AGUERO, and for me it makes massive sense.

then we need a winger and mata must be here too, that will also keep reina and torres at the club

if we dont buy in jan, we wont have the depth to make it to the top 4.. if that happens we might not be able to attract top quality players in the summer and torres and reina might also leave..

I am responding to the criticism of my brother Snerki over his comments on Lucas and Kuyt being labelled as two maligned figures who played very well against Chelsea last sunday. I am here on this page to defend SNERKI. He might not be very bright but he means well. He’s right about Torres though – he’s only playing well now to get a move in January – he’ll be off as soon as the window opens! Why can’t we get Sean Dundee back?

Alot of overpriced players in jan but man utd bought evra and vidic in January both weren’t to expensive but were rubbish qhen they turned up but grew into the league and by the beginnin of the next season were awesome

  • stan says:

wats wrong wid u ppl..?? always blaming torres…if he doesn’t play well, u say his mind is not at liverpool and wants to leave..if he does play well u say its coz he wants to get a move…give the guy a break..

If we want our star players to stay wa have to finish in the top 4 .This will not come ease as our squad not strong enough to 2 or 3 games a week, 4 examle Wigan match showed yesterday that players were weak while there where no good substutes at the bench. we have to buy at least 2 good players who can come direct to starting line up. we need impact winger like HAZZARD/MATA OR A. YOUNG and striker AGUERO/LORENTE/VICINIC OR ANDY CARROL.

  • OLAOLU says:

Roy don’t say that though u don’t hav transfer intellect but how attacking option are too weak we need a quality option pls.
