Liverpool Director of Football Strategy Damien Comolli has praised St Etienne winger Dimitri Payet. Comolli was until recently the French club’s Sporting Director and saw Payet at close quarters. He told France Football:
“On a natural class level, Dimitri is stronger than a player like Modric, (who) I saw very closely at Tottenham. It is a very high level. We never stopped repeating to him: ‘It is only up to you to join a French team’.”
Liverpool have been linked with both St Etienne’s Payet and his team-mate, defensive midfielder Blaise Matuidi, in recent weeks.
