If this Spaniard leaves, it will come back to haunt us

|

There has been talk in the past day or two that one of our highly-rated youngsters, Dani Pacheco, has had enough of his bit-part role in the Liverpool squad and wants to call it a day at Anfield with a move elsewhere his favoured option. Not only is Pacheco one of the most exciting prospects at Liverpool, he is regarded as a potential European superstar. Typically, and an emerging pattern that represents Liverpool Football Club in the past decade, a highly-rated youngster is not being nurtured enough to fulfil his potential and, inevitably, is being sold on with an unhappiness at lack of first team opportunities.

Admittedly, as a spectator for this particular game, Pacheco’s last performance in a red shirt, against Northampton Town in that disastrous third round League Cup defeat, was a disappointing effort to say the least and did nothing to suggest that the Spaniard would hit the dizzy heights that he is being tipped to reach. However, for me, the few appearances he has made for the first team at Liverpool he has been positioned out on the wing, a position I do not believe Roy Hodgson will get the best out of the youngster. Dani has excelled in an attacking position, often just behind the striker, for Spain’s youth ranks and also for our own reserve team; culminating in Pacheco being the star player at the recent European Under-19 Championships. Therefore, to ask him to step up to the big time of first team football in an unfamiliar position is surely too much to ask of a player just starting out in his career.

If the rumours are true and Pacheco decides enough is enough and calls time on a Liverpool career that hasn’t really got going then there will be a host of top European clubs queuing up to take the talented Spaniard off our hands. Ex-manager Rafa Benitez pulled off a major transfer cup to take Pacheco from the famous Barcelona youth system and to waste those efforts would be criminal. The boy has talent but has yet to be given a proper chance to show it and has every right to feel aggrieved at Roy Hodgson’s ignorance.

There is a simple solution to this problem. Give Pacheco a chance. Give him a run in the first team. It is not as though our attacking players’ current performances are of any great standard and they certainly aren’t immovable and are not proving to anybody that there is no room for experimenting with our talented youngsters. Roy Hodgson is walking a very narrow tightrope at the moment in terms of the safety of his job so a player like Pacheco could be a saviour for our under pressure boss. A couple of big performances from the Spaniard would earn the manager praise for bravery and it will not harm him to try out a player that evidently has the ability, he just needs to be given the perfect platform to show it off.

and of course you know why he’s not being given a chance recently? no!

he turned up late for training and he has been punished, now that punishment is over he can get on with trying to get in the first team.

    • Jay Wright says:

what, has he turned up late for training every day since playing right wing in the Northampton game?? Because as you may not have noticed, the guy hasn’t even been named in the match day squads, much less got any time on the pitch, for months!

There’s no way into the first team for the youngsters at our club as long as Hodgson remains in charge and somebody over the age of 27 makes himself available to play.

      • Dede says:

Another sign that he can’t cut it at Liverpool. RH’s style thrives on power rather than ability and talent am worried the owners are going to commit another blunder and by the time they wake up it will all be too late. Roy Hogwash isn’t Liverpool calibre period the sooner they know this the better. Football isn’t rocket science that you can’t see playing Maxi won’t yield anything offensively as a matter of fact am tired of managers who love to play it safe all the time. What did the Liverpool fans did to deserve this. How int he world do you let Aqua go and bring Poulsen????

  • ed smeulders says:

He`s gone, first of many,Torres,Reina included,LFC are quite simply stuffed now and anyone who thinks not is deluding themselves.Well done Hodgson ,you`ve relocated Fulham to Anfield, bottom 10 finish for sure this season….

  • Zaft says:

Roy is a fool not to give Pacheco a chance to strike partnership with Torres. After receiving a golden boot in U-19 he’s still not given a chance. What else does Pacheco need to do to earn himself a run in the 1st team? Pacheco is definitely a future star player. I think even player like messi or fabregas would be rotting in the reserves if they had joined Liverpool in their youth.

  • vinod says:

@zaft agree with u man…pacheco mit be a player like pedro if he had join arsenal or barca…poor guy

  • james says:

    HOLD ON
    STEADY NOW!

is this substantiated ? a report suggests!?
ok lets see it verified 1st
    then we can ask questions
weve already been played as fans more than once this year by the press/media
I like to make my mind up with facts and solid news.
I urge kopites to do the same here and with all other articles that will surley come

    • Jay Wright says:

Some things you can just take as common sense – even before this report came up people were speculating as to how long Pacheco would want to watch his career stagnate in the Liverpool reserves.

He’s been in a good position to see what can happen to the career of promising youngster that sticks around on the fringes at Liverpool for too long and would be sensible to ensure that he doesn’t go the same way. He stuck around in the summer after being promised a role in the first team by Hodgson, but this has clearly failed to materialise, and so it makes perfect sense to accept that he might be upset and agaitating for a move again.

(Btw, I didn’t see last nights reserve game, but from what I had seen previously this season, Pacheco has already begun to lose his spark and go backwards due to the lack of opportunity to move forwards)

  • dee says:

Media aside, it’s clear that Roy is not going to give pacheco a chance. Since we lost to northampthon, He has not make d bench while jonjo n spearing that was also in that match hav tasted action. Scotish young player of year last season is rotting away in LFC, danny wilson at such tender age today won d first cap for scotland today as centre back but we use him as a left back. Chris Mavinga was part of d team that won the same U19 chanpionship with france as a left back, played against pacheco in d final, may be he could do better than Konchesky u’ll never know bcos he will never get d chance to prove it. If not for Glen’s injury martin kelly would hav been in the samee shoe as pacheco. Do we really think any youngster will want to come to LFC with what is happening to those that are already here?

  • Nav says:

Roy s making a big mistake!! Pacheco is lively, quick and clever with this movement. Certainly has the potential to become a fabregas! Roy misgiving the English boys a chance and ignoring dani. Ynwa

  • AreH says:

did any of you bother reading the first reply to this?

obviously not, far too busy trying to put the blame on Hodgson

    grow up

  • hannah says:

ffs play him hes better than cole n ngog

    • Bheko says:

hmm Hannah i don’t know about the “better than Ngog” response love but definately better than Cole the CM/AM/Wing maestro lol. Lets hope the 1st reply to this article is accurate as I don’t see any reason why he’s not playing and the english lads are (remember what Mavinga said at the start of the season about Roy not giving our foreign youngsters a chance).

Why is Konchesky still playing ahead of Aurelio(injury problems fair enough), Mavinga, and or even Jack Robinson, I’m not 1 of these fans who scream for all our promising youngsters to play even if they are as young as 15yrs old or very fragile e.g. Sterling, Suso, Silva, Ngoo, Ince etc. but in this instance I would rather give Robinson a run of games than that imbecile Konchensky but realistically I think Mavinga is good enough to be, at least, on the bench instead of another one of Roy’s brilliant signings Poulsen, Ay Yay Yay!

  • Stevie G says:

AreH. I think you are wrong. Yes, he was punished for being late for training – and he is still being punished!! Most Koppites KNOW Pacheco’s ability they also KNOW Hodgson’s ability. Frankly, Hodgson is not fit to clean Pacheco’s boots! The lad is pure class and being ignored! Rumour has it that he is very disillusioned and who can blame him! John Henry claims to be listening to the fans – well if that is the case – why has he not sacked Hodgson yet!! Simply, because John Henry doesn’t have the football knowledge of the Anfield faithful – they can see Hodgson is an idiot – John Henry doesn’t have the knowledge about “Soccer” to know a good manager from a bad one! He thinks because we beat Chelsea we are good! Unfortunately, we could be fighting a relegation battle before he realises his mistake by not sacking Hodgson. Then let’s see him hang on to star players once we have no European football next season, even if we survive the drop this season.

  • David Shamash says:

What evidence do any of you have that Pachecco is good enough to play! Given our current league position i dont think we can risk giving a light weight inexperienced player a run of games. Yes he was good in the U-21 cup but so was Ryan Babbel. For me i dont think given his current size he can make a difference for us in the physical premier league as I am sure the Liverpool coaching staff have a better idea of who should be playing for us than any of you. For me he has to beef up as playing for U-21 and reserve level is a completely different story than in the premiership where he is playing against the best defenders in the world

    • Jay Wright says:

What evidence do we have that Cole, Maxi, Poulsen, Meireles etc are good enough to play?? Surely it’s only fair to give some of the other players a chance when the regular starters continue to deliver poor performances AND poor results.

I know that most of the blame should be placed squarely on Hodgson’s ridiculous “tactics”, but if we must stick with the same tactics for now, then at least we should give some of the younger players a chance to develop on the pitch.

btw, you but into stereotypes too easily – there are many waifs in the Premiership at present, particularly irt flair players where speed and technique is more important than size and strength. Even in our own central midfield engine room though (where size and strength ARE important), our own Lucas and Meireles aren’t of a much more physical stature than Pacheco!

      • David Shamash says:

Cole, Maxi, Poulsen, and Meireles all have international and high european club level MENS FIRST TEAM football experience. You or anyone else on this post is not watching the Liverpool players in training week in week out! I think us as fans should give more credit to the people employed by Liverpool football club who’s job it is to make the correct decisions when training our players and selecting players. You can’t say just because a player looked good playing against scrawny 17 year olds he will be good for the first team at Liverpool its ludicrous!! Also if your talking prospects with pace and skill, surely Suso should be the one to get his chance as all the reserve team players and coaching staff are talking about him NOT PACHECCO

  • drexler says:

Hmmmm, a certain youngster with a similar build and characteristics played for the German youth teams. He’s now at Real Madrid. It’s not about physique rather it’s about technique. Aren’t John Terry, Ashley Cole, Glen Johnson etc rated the amongst the best in the premiership? Well, at the World Cup we saw what sublime skills could do. Oh for those who are still wondering about the player i’m talking about, he’s the little known kid called Mesut Ozil, the CURRENT German national team’s play maker.

  • ali says:

Roy should leave instead of Pacheco.

  • David says:

Just as letting Della Valle will come to haunt us

    • Jay Wright says:

LDV won’t haunt us – bringing Konchesky in might, but letting LDV go was not a big deal imho…

  • Eric says:

Jesus Christ I feel so bad for the promising youngsters at our club under Hodgson, especially the foreign ones. Seriously, what else does Pacheco have to do to get a run out in the team? Right now he’s not even on the bench. This kid has got the potential to be a world class player and has got tremendous quality. Hodgson, why don’t you just give him a chance and let him show what he can do? It would be a real pity if Pacheco decides to move on and I’m more than certain we’ll regret losing him. Same can be said for Mavinga, who is one of our brightest prospects but again, he’s being ignored by Roy. Surely he should at least be given a chance in the first team. I really don’t like the fact that Roy seems to favour British youngsters and completely ignoring our foreign young players. The likes of Shelvey, Spearing, Kelly, Wilson, Eccelston and Amoo…some of them have got potential but it’s quite obvious that they aren’t quite up to the job yet. To add to this, promising foreign youngsters such as Nemeth, Dalla Valle and Plessis have all been sold before they were even given a chance to show the gaffer what they are capable of. I hate to think that because of our useless muppet manager, two of our promising youths (Pacheco and Mavinga) decide to move on and become star players elsewhere.

  • okumbe jp says:

I dont know but i think the manager is just using trial n error.the other day Kelly did very well against Chelsea n everybody was ya ;aday after i hear he was in france looking at Is it Fani Why cant we develop what we have? y is he panicking? Benitez in his fierst season only had Garcia n Alonso signed n we were fine.

  • james says:

as for this pachenco gossip !
i hear ? dp has been disciplined for bad time keeping in his club duties, this may explain some of recent omissions?
it will worry me if we dont c him back soon. Then we can panic and waffle!

also strikes me this may be classic negotioation technique from the pachenco camp. – court interest/apply for a job with another employer and hey presto ur bosses suddenly value u more.
Id do the same if i was danny.

I see more fans falling for the press/media tricks – interviews, qoutes, snipets, soundbites etc,, these hacks will waste days sniffing round to get that tiny context and then put it up in lights ———– and fans fall for it. The world is laughing at us and we gobble up the half truths like fools.

  • Nicoo says:

RH is quite frankly an idiot. He is destroying Dani’s football career. I have no idea why players such as babel n pacheco cannot get a game. IMO he seems to have favorites(poulsen n Konchesky) n whether they play well or not their always in the starting eleven. I also noticed that he tends to favor British youngsters over over our much more talented foreign youngsters such as pacheco and mavinga to name a few. They will son get frustrated over the lack of playing n leave which I am certain will come back to haunt us. The club needs to get rid of this idiot n his negative tactics before we end up playing championship football.
