Reds will have to bid £7M for French midfielder?

|

The Mirror and the Sunday Express believe that Liverpool will have to bid up to £7million to prise defensive midfielder Blaise Matuidi away from St Etienne. Liverpool’s new Director of Football Strategy Damien Comolli is said to be keen to return to his old club to capture the signing of the club’s captain Matuidi and the Frenchman has already expressed his desire in recent weeks to move to the Premier League. When asked about a move to Serie A club Juventus back in October, Matuidi said:

“It is nice to know a club like Juventus is following you or asking about you. (But) the league that would suit me best is the Premier League. This is due to tactical, cultural and physical reasons, and the atmosphere in the stadiums.”

Comolli has been tasked with “identifying new and exciting talent,” and at 23 years of age, the Frenchman would fit the bill.

TOP TEN LIVERPOOL MOMENTS OF THE DECADE

As we come closer to the end of 2010, I thought it might be good to look back at the last decade and see all the memorable moments Liverpool have had during that time. Of course, the most immediate memory is the Champions League final in 2005, but there are also individual memories such as Gerrard’s goals against Olympiakos in 2005 on the way to the “Miracle in Istanbul,” and the “Gerrard final” of 2006 where Stevie dragged the team to win the FA Cup. Also I have shared memories of instances that occurred under Gerard Houllier’s tenure such as the Golden Goal winner in the UEFA Cup final in 2001, Gary McAllister’s injury time free kick in the Merseyside Derby and John Arne Riise’s goal against Manchester United that nearly broke the goal post in two.

If we are buying another defensive midfielder I would much prefer to pay £9m for a quality holding midfielder who is available i.e. Lassana Diarra rather than gambling £7m on this guy we should sell Poulsen for £3-4m as even youngsters Spearing and Shelvey are better than him. Then sell Babel and buy Ashley Young + a quality striker and we will definitley get back in the cahmpions league then in the summer we can look to strengthen in other areas such as left back and centre half.

I totally agree JJ. But 3-4mil for Poulsen? You should know better, mate. We are notorious for under selling players and we only paid 4mil in the first place. I think 2mil and they’ll be happy. As for Young, he’s my first choice for us and would solve alot of our problems.
