Russian Press: Merseyside Rivals to battle it out for striker

|

Russian newspaper Soviet Sport believes that Liverpool and Everton will fight it out for Stuttgart’s Russian striker Pavel Pogrebnyak. According to the paper, Tottenham Hotspur, who were previously in the race to sign the 26 year old, have dropped out of the running leaving the path clear for both Merseyside clubs. Apparently Everton manager David Moyes is unhappy with the lack of goals from his strikers this season while Roy Hodgson is already on the look out for another striker. Stuttgart head coach Fredi Bobic said earlier this week:

“I have been listening to rumours that Liverpool and Tottenham have their eyes on Pavel. It’s a fact. However, none of these clubs have been talking to us about him lately. He is a player of VfB Stuttgart.”

Pogrebnyak has scored 5 goals in 8 matches for the German club this season.

Good player, but i would hope the new owners will be looking to set down a marker with a world class signing up front. Im not convinced this is the guy would prefer Benzema

I agree with what you said, but there’s no chance of Benzema, we’ll looking for big traditional hold-up men and Benzema is more a speed merchant. I think the hot favorite is Gomez. He’s surprisingly young (25), very much the type of striker I mentioned, a proven goalscorer, and a big name. Plus LFC, the player and Bayern confirmed our interest back in the summer.

F**k why are we aiming for these mediocre players? This guy is not good enough. Hodgson’s got to stop recruiting players of Konchesky and Poulsen quality…I rather we aim for two world class players than 5 mediocre players.

Why we are not going for suarez????????

I would like to see Gomez or Kiessling come over Pogrebnyak is crap and can stay where he is.
