THREE Signings that could ensure Champions League football

|

Quite Recently, Liverpool owner Mr. John Henry outlined in an interview his plans of moving the club forward and to ultimately start winning titles again. He suggested that he intends to build on the strength of the current squad (not to undermine it). He also went further to comment on the countless speculations being circulated regarding what business the club will or will not do come the start of the upcoming transfer window.

However, and regardless of what Mr. Henry says, there will be assumptions of what Liverpool Football Club needs to do to regain its place amongst the world’s leading football clubs. I like Mr. Henry’s plans and am looking forward to them being realized. What I most certainly like is the fact that he seems to care what supporters think and indeed listens to our views, unlike the previous owners. If indeed he happens to be reading an excerpt from live4liverpool, here is my take on what I think can be done to fix the current squad.

There is absolutely no doubt that we need another striker to partner with Fernando Torres up top. And not just another no name striker, one that has been tried and tested. There has been many names being thrown around recently, including those of Mirko Vucinic , Mario Gomez, Karim Benzema, Oscar Cardozo and Lisandro Lopez. However, of all the names that were mentioned two stand out that would make a quality and suitable partner for our number nine, they are Fernando Llorente and Karim Benzema. Both are really exceptional talents; quick, strong and lethal finishers. Although Llorente of the two is less likely to join the club, I tend to think that he would be more suited to play in the English Premier League.

In addition we need a quality winger and a holding midfielder. A few names have been thrown around for midfielders with attacking minds, including that of Charlie Adam of Blackpool, Chris Brunt of West Bromwich Albion and Man City’s Shaun Wright-Phillips. What we need is a quality winger who can take on and beat opposing players and get crosses in to our strikers. And I think for £5million Shaun Wright-Phillips is man for that job. Although 29 years old, he still has some pace and would do far better than our wingers at present. However, that would just be a quick fix for the January window in an attempt for us to secure a push for a Champions league spot.

Finally, our defence is not what it should be at all. We need suitable, competent centre backs. It is true that Carra is in his twilight years, but apart from himself our defence for the most part has looked totally out of sorts, very slow and unsure. We need rock hard defenders (center backs especially) Ryan Shawcross I think is a good young defender and would be a very good addition. What do you think?

I have been a Liverpool F.C supporter since the mid 80's, I fell in love with this club when I saw the likes of Ian Rush and John Barnes play. I hold a Law degree from the University of London ,and a Bachelors of Science Degree from the University of the West Indies.

We need a striker, a winger, a left back and a holding midfielder.

I would prefer Benzema (22 mill), Hazard (16 mill), Coentrao (14 mill) and Lassana Diarra (10 mill.). This means a total of 62 mill. spent.

Then get rid of Babel (9 mill.), Poulsen (2 mill.), Jovanovic (4 mill.), Kuyt (11 mill.) and Lucas (6 mill.). Total of 32 mill received.

    Net. spent 30 mill.

This will give us a fantastic starting 11 as well some good subs.

    My preferred 11: Reina – Johnson : Carra : Agger : Coentrao – Hazard : Gerrard : Diarra : Cole – Torres : Benzema

Subs: Jones, Kelly, Skrtel, Meireles, Maxi, Pacheco and N’Gog

the first thing is to get rid of HODGSON, how on earth they overlooked kenny for him is unreal.class is permnent dalglish is class hodgson is not and never will be. kenny with aldo, or even phil thompson , or molby will do the job. konchescy. polsen rubbish buys. aurillo is better than konchescky, anyones better than polsen new direction , players who can play not pass back, or side to side, players who can take players on flair players.. ive heard real madrid want johnson yes please well have alonso back…

SW Philipps – are you a having a laugh?!!!!

Yes, if we had bought him 3/4 years ago – now, not a chance, he is getting old and has not made any real improvement in the last few years at all – he has gone backwards in my personal opinion.

The big spanish forward would definately improve us and keep Torres happy to boot.
Shawcross I’m not sure about – I’d be happier with Gary Cahill.

  • jordan says:

are we forgetting that daniel agger has spent a number of spells on the sideline through injury? why not cash in on him and replace with a quality centre half instead of having to rely upon kyrgiakos and skrtel?

  • Dave says:

A left back is a priority . Konchesky is awful .

  • Tilly says:

Buy Honda instead of SWP.He’s an incredible talent and still young too.

  • gowtham says:
