THREE Signings that could ensure Champions League football

|

Quite Recently, Liverpool owner Mr. John Henry outlined in an interview his plans of moving the club forward and to ultimately start winning titles again. He suggested that he intends to build on the strength of the current squad (not to undermine it). He also went further to comment on the countless speculations being circulated regarding what business the club will or will not do come the start of the upcoming transfer window.

However, and regardless of what Mr. Henry says, there will be assumptions of what Liverpool Football Club needs to do to regain its place amongst the world’s leading football clubs. I like Mr. Henry’s plans and am looking forward to them being realized. What I most certainly like is the fact that he seems to care what supporters think and indeed listens to our views, unlike the previous owners. If indeed he happens to be reading an excerpt from live4liverpool, here is my take on what I think can be done to fix the current squad.

There is absolutely no doubt that we need another striker to partner with Fernando Torres up top. And not just another no name striker, one that has been tried and tested. There has been many names being thrown around recently, including those of Mirko Vucinic , Mario Gomez, Karim Benzema, Oscar Cardozo and Lisandro Lopez. However, of all the names that were mentioned two stand out that would make a quality and suitable partner for our number nine, they are Fernando Llorente and Karim Benzema. Both are really exceptional talents; quick, strong and lethal finishers. Although Llorente of the two is less likely to join the club, I tend to think that he would be more suited to play in the English Premier League.

In addition we need a quality winger and a holding midfielder. A few names have been thrown around for midfielders with attacking minds, including that of Charlie Adam of Blackpool, Chris Brunt of West Bromwich Albion and Man City’s Shaun Wright-Phillips. What we need is a quality winger who can take on and beat opposing players and get crosses in to our strikers. And I think for £5million Shaun Wright-Phillips is man for that job. Although 29 years old, he still has some pace and would do far better than our wingers at present. However, that would just be a quick fix for the January window in an attempt for us to secure a push for a Champions league spot.

Finally, our defence is not what it should be at all. We need suitable, competent centre backs. It is true that Carra is in his twilight years, but apart from himself our defence for the most part has looked totally out of sorts, very slow and unsure. We need rock hard defenders (center backs especially) Ryan Shawcross I think is a good young defender and would be a very good addition. What do you think?

I have been a Liverpool F.C supporter since the mid 80's, I fell in love with this club when I saw the likes of Ian Rush and John Barnes play. I hold a Law degree from the University of London ,and a Bachelors of Science Degree from the University of the West Indies.

If that is the case Mr. John Henry why You, the football director and Mr. Werner do not listen the fans who voice their concern about the future of this historic club with Roy Hodgson on the helm? We have been emphasizing the fact for some time now that he is not the ideal manager to take this club forward but You still keep him and the only we see is the team to be struggling. You need to make your homeword and learn what soccer is all about and act immediatelly!

forget brunt ashley young well better santa cruz adam johnson

  • Decky says:

forward, winger ,holding mid and defender is 4 players!! also shaun wright phillips is trash, ensure champions league football yeah right.

  • JJ says:

I would love to see Andy Carroll{striker},Ashley Young{winger},Lassana Diarra{holding midfielder},Fabio Coentrao{left back} and Gary Cahill{centre half} these 5 players would have us challenging for the title we could sell Aquilani,Degen,Insua,Babel,El Zhar ,Darby,Poulsen,Ayala ,Krygiakos and Jovanovic. some of these players are good players such as Aquilani and Krygiakos but we won’t miss them that much and the players coming in would be immense we could have a fine squad including the likes of Gerrard,Torres,Cole,Young,Reina,Carragher,Coentrao,Meireles, Johnson,Agger,Kuyt,Carroll,Cahill,Lucas,Skrtel,Rodriguez,Kelly, N’gog, Diarra,Pacheco,Konchesky,Jones,Shelvey,Spearing, Wilson,Suso

  • darevolution says:

I agree with the fact we need a striker, winger, defender but another holding midfielder i don’t think so we have enough of them at present if you are talking midfielders to create yes pls 3 players id like would be benzema,Elia and coentrao

  • Mike Arms says:

Maxi Rodriguez, David Ngog & Paul Konchesky are the weak links in this current Liverpool team. Aurellio must get his place back at LB afer another woeful performance from Konchesky. Maxi as with Ngog lack the composure & quality to be top players, ok for squad players but not first 11.
So priority in January must be address the left wing and striker weaknesses and we could have a strong end of season rally up the table to 4th spot at least. Or is Jovanic better than Maxi? Is Pacheco better than Ngog, are the players we need already in the squad but not being used?

  • kenny says:

NESV are not going to spend any money in January as it would be money down the drain with Roy in charge. The club is in serious trouble, 6 defeats already this season is unacceptable but Roy and the players still collect their undeserved wages. Roy has to go but Reina,Carragher,Skyrtel,Gerrard,Meireles,Kuyt and the biggest waste of space Torres should be turfed out as well. These players are a disgrace.

  • RedMist!!! says:

3 signings that would ensure champions league football!

4 Players we need to get rid of!

$ kids ready for first team!!!

    Jeez change the record!!!

  • Red says:

What we do not need is another idiot dreamer more accustomed to a football manager sim than reality.

What we do need is another manager BEFORE we start thinking about ANY players.

  • Gazman says:

The main change in January, in fact now, should be to get rid of the manager. Players of the stature of Llorentes would not come within a bull’s roar of LFC if Roy Hodgson remains in charge. The British players you’ve mentioned are all over-priced and the likes of SWP have seen better days. A fish rots from the head first.

  • mosquigee says:

i am very happy at the three strikers been mentioned by our owner.but i think we should concentrate more in benzema.he is a good striker.

  • GF says:

For too long we have had quick fix transfers. Rafa paraded three or four players at a time, posing for photos in the stands, Rafa all smiles and friendly.

The money was pissed away on quantity rather than quality. We still have only two world class outfield players in the team. You can only field 10 outfield players, so why why why keep buying so many average players who don’t have any positive effect on the side?

Save the cash and buy big. Three world class outfield players in the team plus seven average is way better than 2 plus 8.

Then……………..you save the pennies and buy another world class player later. YOU DON’T KEEP PISSING THE MONEY AWAY!!!

Football is simple. Unfortunately, some of the managers are too.

AND if you sell some of the dead wood you can raise the cash for another top class signing.

Oh yeah, and we need a new manager.

    Amen

  • joel says:

benzema, adam johnston, ashley young.. and 100
million… get young english players for the future.. benzema too for class and sell torres for the 60 million.. and sell reina 20 million.. kuyt for 15 million.. maxi..kon job esky for 1 pound.. go reds

  • Elroy says:

    I would have brought:

    K. Benzema 10 million pounds
A.Johnson 8-12 million pounds or alternatively Payet 8-12 million pounds
and Taiwo/coentrao/r. ziegler for 6-9 pounds although coentrao wold be more expensive.

  • Vinny B says:

In January we should look at players that we have a shot at getting that means players playing at small clubs with no chance at all of silverware.

With that in mind I’d look at N’Zogbia for the wide midfield, left and right. Cahill at centerback and Jose Enrique for leftback. All have played in England the last few years and all should be available for reasonable prices. I would then look at Benzema on loan if possible. But with Carragher injured for 2-3 months, CB could be a priority, more than CF anyways. But who knows come January.

  • adam says:

Why the hell do we keep players on big wages like babbel at the club hes done nothin in 3years!! Sell him in jan n by a bloody striker cos we arent gonna get any money from the new owners!!!

  • daboy says:

I would like Mvila Taiwo and Gomez but Shawcross would also be nice also but mostly the side needs a new manager.
I would prefer their signings to be mid twenties or younger as they must look to build for the future.

  • darren says:

we need the special one hes not happy in spain lets do some courting

  • Eric says:

Getting a striker is the priority. Ngog has potential but he’s not up to the task just yet. Benzema or Llorente are quality players and would link up well with Torres. It’d be nice if we could also get an out-and-out winger who can actually run down the flanks and cross the ball. I would suggest N’Zogbia, A.Young or Elia. But I don’t think we need another centre back despite Carra’s injury cause we’ve got Skrtel and Kyrgiakos and Agger returning soon and Wilson.

  • rambo says:

we should bring in Pelligrino. then he would enable to to attract alexis sanchez (chillean) and luis suarez (urgauyan). then get shawcross and Contreou and your done. If we need to sell players look no further than Babbel, Maxi, Ngog, Konchesky, poulson, Carragher, Kuyt, jovanovic..i could go on!

Pelligrino should be the first to come in.
