“We’re all in favour of that. It’s never been a question.”

|

Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson has stated he is in full agreement with Steven Gerrard that Melwood and the Academy at Kirkby should be merged. Hodgson does however believe that there would be complications in such a process:

“We’re all in favour of that (youngsters and senior stars being together). It’s never been a question. The only problem is, it’s a question of space. We can’t do it here at Melwood. It would mean closing Melwood down and moving everyone to Kirkby, which is not such a good site. It’s the famous house buyer who finds the right house in the wrong location.”

Hodgson believes it would be with a heavy heart if Liverpool’s first team moved from Melwood:

“Maybe one day the club will decide everyone’s got to move out to Kirkby. In my opinion that would be sad because Melwood is a very traditional home for Liverpool Football Club. We do have one of the best facilities that you could possibly wish to have for a first team. But if we tried to accommodate our academy here, we’d have no chance with only three pitches. It’s one of those pie in the sky discussions.”

TOP TEN LIVERPOOL MOMENTS OF THE DECADE

As we come closer to the end of 2010, I thought it might be good to look back at the last decade and see all the memorable moments Liverpool have had during that time. Of course, the most immediate memory is the Champions League final in 2005, but there are also individual memories such as Gerrard’s goals against Olympiakos in 2005 on the way to the “Miracle in Istanbul,” and the “Gerrard final” of 2006 where Stevie dragged the team to win the FA Cup. Also I have shared memories of instances that occurred under Gerard Houllier’s tenure such as the Golden Goal winner in the UEFA Cup final in 2001, Gary McAllister’s injury time free kick in the Merseyside Derby and John Arne Riise’s goal against Manchester United that nearly broke the goal post in two.
