Cole? Bentley? Cazorla? Bring on January I say

|

With just a couple of weeks now to go until the reopening of the transfer window, silly season is predictably shifting into overdrive. We’re currently being linked with what seems like half of France’s young footballers along with any player who isn’t getting enough game time for their clubs.

Most recently, we’ve been linked with the likes of David Bentley and worryingly, Carlton Cole yet again. In the case of Bentley, even though I’m all for giving struggling ‘talented’ players the chance to rejuvenate themselves with us, I can’t see him ever being able to recover from the freefall his career is currently in. He is where he is mostly due to his lack of discipline and a move to Liverpool is unlikely to turn around his mentality. Thankfully I don’t see the transfer rumour turning into anything more though as its unlikely that Roy Hodgson would prioritise such a player while I also don’t see Harry Redknapp selling one of his players to us willingly.

As for Carlton Cole, I respect what he brings to a team in terms of physical presence, which is what we need but his finishing ability is way below the standard required to improve our attack. Hopefully with him having a slow season so far, and with us having more money than we did at the end of summer, Roy will now set his sights higher. Silly season isn’t all bad though, as we do get linked with exciting talents every now and then. I have to say I’m liking the sound of the types of players Damien Comolli is reported to be scouting on our behalf.

I mentioned before that it seemed like we were being linked with half of France’s young prospects recently, but I definitely wasn’t complaining as I’ve felt for a while like it’s a market that we’ve neglected a bit since Houllier left. Along with that, France actually have a huge batch of young, exciting talents breaking through at the moment and it would be nice to be able to snap up some of these players before the other big boys come sniffing around.

More recently we’ve been linked with well respected players who could potentially make an impact on our season; players like Santi Cazorla of Villarreal. Having watched quite a bit of La Liga over the years I can say that a signing of this calibre would excite me. He played a key role in helping Spain to European Championship glory in 2008 and has been one of Villarreal’s best players for years now. I would welcome exciting attacking talents like Cazorla at Anfield with open arms but it remains to be seen just how much money our new owners make available in January. When the transfer window does reopen in a couple weeks time, one thing that is a definite is that our actions for the duration of next month could make or break our season. I for one cannot wait to see who we bring in to potentially rescue our season and I remain hopeful that we can learn from mistakes of past transfer windows and get deals negotiated as soon as possible.

I hope in January Roy will be sacked or if not, Comolli will be doing the transfers. After seeing the guy spend like 10 mil on Jones, Konchesky and Poulsen, I can only see him bring more mediocre players to the club like C.Cole and Bentley. We need a world class manager who can make the right moves in the transfer market and improve the squad instead of weakening it.

I really don’t want more mid-table players join the club. I’ve had enough of Koncheskys and Poulsens. We need a left back, a winger and a striker and I hope we have a new manager taking care of the transfers or Comolli doing it. Get this guy out before he wastes more money on more Koncheskys and Poulsens.

mark, carzorla is a great little player more of type of this player is needed.

BENTLY – CRAP NEVER ANY GOOD, THE BEST THING HE COULD DO WAS TAKE DEAD BALLS. THAT’S ABOUT IT.

COLE- WE ALREADY HAVE ONE, THAT ‘S ENOUGH, CARLTON COLE IS WORTH ABOUT 1,5 MILL, NGOG IS BETTER THAN HIM AND I AM DEAD SERIOUS ABOUT THAT, IF WE SIGN HIM I AM GOING TO TEIR GAS THE CLUB.
    OTHERS;

    NZOGBIA – NO.
    BRIDGE – NO
FANNI- THANK GOD HE STAYED IN FRANCE….
AND TO ALL OF THE REST OF THE GOSSIP, LIKE CASSANO,, ER NO.

  • Red4Life says:

Just need to read the headline to this article and the answer is –

NO, NO and NO !!!!!! and message to Roy – GO GO and GO

We need proven quality not proven tripe – NESV – are you reading these bloggs !!!!

Santi Cazorla is a great option. It would be nice also imported from Spain, that is, from Sociedad Jew with a french passport. (Antoine Griezmann) and of course Cassano.
And ultimately if the management can agree with Adam Johnson, it will be generally fair and wonderful translation.

  • kenny says:

If NESV decide to sign any players in January then they must trim the ridiculously high wage bill by selling Reina (20 million-replace with Ben Foster from Birmingham for 10 million and use the other 10 million to buy Charles Nzogbia for the leftwing). Sell Torres for 50 million to Man City and replace him with 35million for Edin Dzeko and 15 million for Andy Carroll. Sell Kuyt, Poulsen and Konchesky for 18 million and buy Gary Cahill to play alongside Kygriakos. Sell Skyrtel, Babel and Jovanovic and use the money to buy either Agbonlahor or Ashley Young from Aston Villa. The club has failed before under Houllier with French players eg Le Tallec, Pongolle, Cheyrou and Diomede, there is no point in repeating that mistake.

I thnk hodgson should hunt for a striker like podolski or suarez..Giving kelly sum 1st team xperience will be good for him…Kelly replacing Konchesky would be a great move n agger will be coming back in january… So playin soto, agger, skrtel n kelly/konchesky till carra cums back will be fine..also insua will be coming back after his loan move..
We dont need midfielders we have many..!! Even aqua will be back from juventus..our midfield is good..
We just need a striker..suarez or benzema will be nice but i feel we should buy a striker who can support torres as well as score goals..PODOLSKI will be a very good striker as well as assist torres…so he will be a great signing..also G.ROSSI from villareal will be a very good attacking option for us..

we have midfielders but we dont have any genuine pacy wingers..our game desperately lacks width and we badly need a winger who has pace and can get crosses in…maybe ashley young or eden hazard, he’s a bit pricy but a very promising talent…

  • Julie says:

Gee Kenny it always amuses me reading your blogs & how constructive your criticisms have become. But I’m rather disappointed that you missed out a few more players I mean you forgot Glen Johnson, Raul M, Lucas, Stevie G, Maxi, the Medical Staff, the doorman, the bus-driver, Sammie Lee need I say more? (REAL AMUSING!!!) NOW that I’ve had my laugh for the day I tend to agree with Red4life NO, NO & NO on the question they’ve asked & roll on the new year. Who should the club target, cover for Torres, a winger & a defender to replace Paul “mommy’s boy” Konchesky . So who’s on the radar, Ajax striker Luis Suarez has been mentioned, with his club in financial difficulties Liverpool will have to move quickly but I’ll throw a couple of names out there that are under the radar Dame Ndoye (FC KOPENHAGEN) has 3 goals in this yrs CL & at the moment is worth 3-5MIL Euro but if he plays well against Man U he could be out of reach & Radamel Falcao (FC PORTO). Wingers, try (WERDER BREMEN’s) Aaron Hunt a versatile midfielder/striker good dribbler great acceleration & a killer left foot & (FC BASEL’s) Valentin Stocker and defenders I really like (SEVILLA’s) Federico Fazio a 6ft 4in central defender who also plays as a defensive midfielder is extremely strong, good in the air & for a big unit is an excellent tackler the other person I like is Oscar Wendt another (FC KOPENHAGEN) player who’s off contract & should be picked up on the cheap. So Eric & Sam U L charles run your ruler over that lot & tell me what you think!!!

  • kenny says:

In response to Julie you did not say who you would sell to raise money or do you expect NESV to throw more money down the drain under Hodgson’s tutelage like the 23.5million he has wasted so far. Most fans seem to forget about Platini’s proposals about club’s budgets coming in shortly. Liverpool have the fourth highest wage bill in the Premier League but yet Julie you think the club should add another 4 or 5 players to it therefore adding at least another 10 to 12 million a season on to the wage bill. If you think NESV are not going to look to sell players in order to make room for new ones then you are incorrect.

  • Julie says:

We would all agree that Raul M is rubroy’s only successful Liverpool purchase to date, all his others are DEADWOOD & should be cut adrift & quickly. I would say ( laughingly )that rubroy brought the wrong Konchesky!!! If the rumors are true Polsen should be sold to Schalke04 while Joe Cole is not the J Cole of old, HE’S JUST OLD!!! so 1 defender & 2 midfielders out of a possible starting 17. So who out of the remaining 13 are not pulling their weight Ryan Babel’s name jumps out, a great talent but has been unable to find his feet in the EPL could be used as a make weight for one of my suggested picks especially Luis Suarez who’s @ Ajax they’re the same age only difference is Suarez is an out & out striker whereas Babel doesn’t know where he wants to play, Kuyt I love what he brings to the team a work ethic, workhorse mentality & the ability to play where ever the coach wants & team needs him to play but the longer Liverpool hold onto him his value diminishes (I HERE SERIE A CALLING) rumors are abound that Glen Jonhson wants to leave but I would hold off on the January window & see if rubroy’s still around. So who else needs the broom, Aqualani out on loan & going great @ JUVE so make it permanent!!! or offer a fit Aqualani to INTER for Davide Stanton & cash surely if Rafa was smart enough to buy him injured for 20MIL he’d be CRAZY not to do a player & cash deal!!! At the moment it’s all speculation but Poulsen, Konchesky, Cole, Babel & Aqualani would be the 1st lot I’d put in the transfer window I’d promote Shelvey Kelly & Pacheco & give them more game time. Bring Insua & Ayala back from their loan deals as well so I hope Kenny that this might give you some food for thought!!!

  • kenny says:

In response to Julie bringing back Insua would be a disaster. He and Johnson were responsible for the majority of the 19 defeats in all competitions last season. Insua is as bad as Konchesky, he can’t even hack it in a crap league in Turkey. Mavinga should be promoted to leftback, he is taller and faster than Konchesky or Insua. Ayala is average at best, he has no pace and it would be better to sell him back to Spain for a couple of million. Torres is not going to recover his form because his pace is not what it used to be and even when at his best 3 years ago, any team that stayed deep against him negated him easily. He is a one trick pony. The team plays too narrow when he is in the team, he does not like wingers crossing the ball into him, he prefers the ball played in front of him. We need a big target man that can cope with the battering from defenders such as Andy Carroll and Edin Dzeko.

  • Julie says:

Where are the players who topped the assists chart last year? GERRARD 7 injured, soon to be back, AQUALANI 6 playing 4 JUVE, BENAYOUN 4 injured, playing 4 CHELSEA & INSUA 4 playing in a crap league in TURKEY!!! Now who are the top providers so far this year GERRARD 3 injured, soon to be back TORRES 2 WTF our striker? KUYT 2 WTF THE GUY WHO FILLED IN WHEN TORRES was sidelined & MEIRELES 2 rubroy’s best buy!!! It’s quiet obvious to me last year we had a more attacking midfield with fullbacks that counter attacked, this stretched the opposition back 4 from sideline to sideline allowing TORRES the ability to cut between the fullback & center backs where he could take the ball to the 6 yard box & more often score. WHAT HAS CHANGED NOW? Now the midfield is more defensive & the strikers are playing a more attacking midfield roll. CONCLUSION the one trick pony was brought in as a striker so he needs players who can get him the ball in the 6 yard box that’s why I reckon JOHNSON needs to play in the midfield (LAST YEAR 3 GOALS & 3 ASSISTS) It seems KENNY is blaming TORRES for the team pattern but NUMBERS DON’T LIE our 3 top providers are our 3 TOP SCORERS THIS PATTERN HAS TO CHANGE or WILL YOU BLAME JOHNSON & INSUA FOR ANOTHER 19 DEFEATS?

  • kenny says:

Julie; first and foremost defenders need to be able to defend and Insua and Johnson are clueless at it as the goals conceded last season showed that they were caught out of position time and time again. You seem to have an interest in Liverpool so I suggest you study the 19 defeats last season and you will see exactly the point I am making as clear as day. I suppose you blame Torres’s many misses last season and this season on everyone else including the groundsman, canteen staff, the turnstile people except Torres. How do you explain Julie if Torres is worldclass why his goals record for Spain is average at best-are not Spain the supposedly best team in the world?
