Roy: It will be a difficult decision to make when he returns

|

Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson has admitted it will be a difficult decision as to where to play Steven Gerrard when he returns from injury. The success of the Meireles and Lucas midfield pairing has given Roy food for thought. Speaking about Meireles after he was awarded the Reds player of the month:

“It’s absolutely a good decision. He’s played extremely well, hasn’t he? In the last month or so he’s come to terms with what English football is, compared to what is a different style of football in Portugal. It takes a couple of months for a player to bed in and he’s certainly done that extremely well. If anything we’ll get even more from him. He’s a quality player. He’s all action, an all-round player. He and Lucas have done extremely well together. I’d be more than happy to keep him in the centre of midfield. I might have a difficult decision to make when Steven gets fit as to where to play him.”

Roy has also praised the contribution of winger Maxi Rodriguez:

“People have not spoken much about Maxi but he has been a revelation. He is a bit of an unsung hero at the moment, he’s not getting a lot of credit but he’s doing a great job at the moment. He has taken on board the work we have tried to do and embraced the role I have given him and interpreted it so well both offensively and defensively. Suggestions that he goes missing in a game are very harsh and I can produce statistics to prove he doesn’t go missing. His positional play is very good, his technical ability is very good and, at the moment, with three goals he is right up there.”

This week it is self-proclaimed Liverpool supporter and Tennis ace Caroline Wozniacki!

Lucas and Meireles should still continue in the centre of midfield since they’ve formed such a good partnership. It would be better to play Gerrard just off Torres instead of playing him in central midfield and break up the Lucas-Meireles partnership which is going well at the moment.

    Difficult decision??
    ABsolutely NOT Roy.

We know Gerrard works really well in assisting Torres for more goal and create goal for himself.

So when he come back, it is obvious we have to use
    4-4-1-1 formation.

    Play Gerrard behind Torres.
Lucas-Meireles they are going to control midfield. At this time, Gerrard-lucas or Gerrard-meireles partnership is not suitable since Gerrard always go forward..

i go with doyle. it will be interesting to see us playing in 4-3-3 formation. if we get wingers like hazard. adam johnson, turan with good cb and lb it will be a great revelation in LFC.

Maxi has NOT been a revelation for us on the wings! Lucas and Meireles have improved with each game in the middle together and look a very good partnership, but Maxi should still be easily dropped imo

As I’ve been saying all season, we’d be best served by switching to a 433 that Mourinho used to such devestating effect at Chelsea, but if we must persist with the 4222 that Hodgson has recently switched to (MUCH better than the 4411 but still not ideal) then either Maxi or Kuyt should definitely be ready to make way for Gerrard
