Smith: We have all seen a few stinkers but that was awful

|

Liverpool legend Tommy Smith wrote in his column for the Liverpool Daily Post at the weekend that Liverpool’s last Europa League group match against FC Utrecht at Anfield was the worst European performance he had even seen by the Reds:

“Anyone who has watched football for long enough will have seen a fair few stinkers. But I can honestly say that Wednesday night’s match against Utrecht was probably the worst game of European football I’ve ever seen us play in. It was dire from start to finish, with just a shot from Jovanovic in the first half which hit the bar and a near miss from Joe Cole the only things that happened of any real note. I know it was a dead rubber but we are Liverpool Football Club with a rich and proud history. We should not be letting teams like them come here and get away with such a lifeless, easy draw.”

Smith felt that Roy Hodgson will have to do a lot better to get fans on his side:

“It hasn’t been a good week for Roy Hodgson; yet again he has got many fans criticising him. He’s got to get this team playing better and more consistently so too. Because people are not stupid – especially Liverpool fans who support one of the top clubs in the world. They deserve and demand better than they’ve been getting this season- including in a dead rubber against a team like Utrecht.”

The sooner Hodgson leaves the better Liverpool’s fortunes will be.

What do you expect when we’ve got old fat Roy as our manager?

  • vjm says:

Roy always gives excuses, criticise our team. We have a good team who can beat chealsky, arsnel or manu anytime. But we are unable to achive what blackpool have done so far and they didnt have a team as good as ours. But they do have a very good manager who can make difference. They never give excuses. Its a best example for what manager can do with teams.
