Liverpool revive interest in £5m Dutch World Cup Star?

|

Liverpool have revived their interest in Dutch World Cup star Eljero Elia, according to the People. The left winger was interesting the Reds last summer before Rafa Benitez departed the club but new Director of Football Strategy Damien Comolli is confident a deal can be struck with his club Hamburg because of his good relations with the German team. Elia wants out from Hamburg and has already been subject to two bids from Juventus and is valued by the Bundesliga side at £5million. Comolli values the player nearer to £3million and is confident a deal can be done once the January window opens, according to the People.

What a drastic decrease in price

  • Eric says:

We can get Elia for as little as 5 mil? I expected his price to rocket after the World Cup. 5 mil is a bargain for this guy, just what we need, speedy winger who can cross, would snap your hands off you offered me this guy for 5 mil.

what is it with you lot and crosses??? the only team in the EPL thats making good use of crosses this season is Everton because of Cahill’s amazing heading talent but we all know how well they’re doing don’t we! Crosses don’t win you games and crosses are not the only way you can get the ball into the box – anyone remember a fella by the name Benayoun? how many times did we see him crossing the ball into the box and hoping like all these English wingers? not too many times is the answer but he still managed to have a high assist ratio!

What we need is a winger(s) that can get into or around the box and play a good pass to a forward or score himself like David Silva for example or Nasri or Malouda or Messi or Maxi or Pacheco, the list is quite long! Crosses are for little teams that can’t afford to buy ball playing wingers not for LIVERPOOL FOOTBALL CLUB!!! YNWA!

      • Eric says:

We have more than enough wide players that can get into or around the box to create goalscoring chances like Maxi, Kuyt, Cole and Pacheco etc and no doubt Benayoun was a fantastic player for us. But we’ve been lacking an out-and-out pacy winger who can take on defenders and get balls into the box. Our team lacks width and pace and it’s clear that we’re in need of a winger. We should be looking at players like Elia, N’Zogbia, Ashley Young, Jesus Navas etc.

        • Bheko says:

I agree with you to some extent Eric but Kuyt and Cole are average at best with the latter claiming first to be an “in the hole” player then later claiming he is a CM and would love to play there with Stevie like when they were in the England U14 or something, snigger! If we want an out-and-out winger then fair enough but lets not make the “crossing” ability the main priority because I feel we need players with pace, guile and technical abilty to unlock defences with a deft pass or dribble now and again like Yossi used to.

I personally feel Elia would be a good addition to the squad, he has pace, can dribble when need be, scores some goals (Note: I don’t mention crossing first, lol), and can cross the ball WHEN NEED BE! I also like Marcello from R. Madrid but as a LW not LB because he can’t defend to save his mum’s life, Eden Hazard, Adam Johnson, Arda Turan (though some don’t rate him) and many other QUALITY wingers.

Navas will never come because he gets home sick like Baines, Young is a crosser so for that reason I ‘personally’ don’t want him, N’Zogbia just causes chaos wherever he goes and sulks so for that reason I don’t want him. I’d have Valencia though or, dare I say, Bentley.

      • Jay Wright says:

yeah Bheko, forget about pacey wingers that cross the ball, that’s not the Liverpool way! We far prefer the tried and tested formula for success of sticking with “clever” (i.e. slow as heck) wingers that “work hard” (i.e. can’t beat a man) and hardly get the ball into the box at all!

        • Bheko says:

obviously you didn’t understand my point Jay Wright, what I’m saying is, and read this carefully, we HAVE to buy wingers that are BETTER than what we have now and that’s without a shadow of doubt BUT they don’t have to be “ball crossing wingers” e.g. Shaun Wright-Phillips or Pennant (we all know how well he did with all his crosses), hence, I’ve even given you examples of the type of winger(s) I’m going on about (David Silva, Samir Nasri, Flourent Malouda, Lionel Messi, Maxi Rodriguez (who is brilliant in my opinion), or Dani Pacheco(who prefers to play centrally), now would you call any one of those examples “slow as heck” and/or “can’t beat a man”??? I don’t think so!!!

Read the whole comment and UNDERSTAND it before replying!

P.S. what have the “crossers” done that’s so great in recent LFC history? Think of Pennant, Kewell, Nunez, Gonzalez, Leto, Riera etc and get back to me if you can!

  • danpool says:

liverpool are crying out for more creativity we need player with pace dribbling skills ie mc manman beardsly barnes clever players to create space and attempt to get in the box elia hazzard would be great also up front rangers forward forgotten his name

  • Red4Life says:

If we go for him then i guess Woy will play him in goal or something !!! lol

Same as what Rafa used to do – playing good players out of position.

Kuyt was a forward in Holland banging in goals, even at Liverpool i think his best position is with Torres up front.

Out of all the players that have played out of position there is one that has not and definitely needs to …… stand up Mr Johnston. He can not defend but is excellent going forward, come on Roy play him as a right winger with Kelly as a right back who is much better at defending.

  • daboy says:

If Elia is that cheap which i doubt i would get him a very good player and would add something definitely to the side.
To me they need a couple of wingers that can pass can cross and can take on defenders.
