Aldridge: Some of these starlets can go all the way

|

Former Liverpool striker John Aldridge watched Liverpool U18s beat Crystal Palace convincingly in the FA Youth Cup at the weekend and was impressed by what he saw. Writing in his column for the Liverpool Echo, he said:

“The boys won 3-1 and it shows all the hard work that the two Spanish coaches are putting in. I had a chat with Rodolfo and was very impressed with the methods and ideas at the Academy.”

He believes some of the youngsters will push for first team places in the future:

“Sterling, Robinson and Flanagan are just some of the names that spring to mind. I’m sure we’ll see a few of them pushing their way into the senior squad in a few years’ time. It’s heartening to see Liverpool have excellent prospects coming through. The future looks bright.”

This week it is former Liverpool WAG Jennifer Ellison!

Some is not good enough, they all have to be brought through. Arsenal and Man Utd have made their youth systems work bigtime, Liverpool cannot afford to fail in this endeavour, but these players have to be able to handle the physical nature of the Premiership to enable them to show their ability.

The reason the Arsenal’s & the Man Utd’s youth systems work so well is their managers believe in recruitment, development & playing them alongside the clubs more experienced players in (Carling & FA Cup) matches in which the clubs can afford to rest (or rotate ) their more senior players who will be needed in matches deemed more important further into the season. I see FSG emulating the Boston Red Sox farming system and promoting & signing the cream of their youth to long term contracts & seeking 1 or 2 major acquisition in areas in which the team lacks for it to challenge for the Pennant or in Liverpool’s case “the Premiership”.I see kenny already giving the youth a taste in KELLY & SHELVEY hopefully Dani Pachecho & Danny Wilson can press their claim for a place for a regular berth. It seems a bit weird salivating over a Liverpool game but all I can say is bring it on!!!
