The Hamburger Morgenpost has stated that Liverpool are still in the hunt for Hamburg winger Eljero Elia but only if they can offload forward Ryan Babel. The paper believes that Hamburg are willing to cash in on Elia if their £13million valuation is met and the Dutch international himself has stated he is looking for a new challenge. He told German newspaper Bild:
“I have learned a lot in the Bundesliga. I am very grateful to the HSV, HSV is also a top team. But I would love to play for one of the special clubs such as Real Madrid , FC Barcelona or Manchester United. I played with the Dutch national team at the World Cup and showed what level I can perform at, I passed that test.”
It is believed that Steve McClaren’s Wolfsburg will rival Liverpool for Elia’s signature but only if they sell Edin Dzeko to Manchester City.

Why would Babel leave he is on big wages and does nothing Hamburg would make him earn it.

Why should Babel leave when he has been forced to waste his career for the last couple of years, and would waste the next few by transferring to some nobody club like Wigan or Birmingham??
He’s wasted enough time already being patient and waiting for his chance at Liverpool, so now it makes sense for him to just wait another year where a bigger and better club might choose to pick him up on a free.
We have plenty of other dead weights that could be removed to clear space for new players anyway, starting off with everybody’s favorites; Kuyt, Maxi & Skrtel

People need to lay off Babel. Fact is, his position is Centre Forward, or wide left of a 4-3-3. Positions he has never had a run in since he came to us. 442 wide left and 451 wide left in a defensive team? of course he is not gonna shine! Rafa killed his confidence and Hodgson just abuses him!
its simple, Rijkaard comes in. Babel, Torres, Cole play as a front three and you’ll see some quality attacking football.

Babel is not washed up. I don’t know about his wages. But he is not the only one clogging up the wage bill! But I could name several players before Babel to get shown the door. Only we could sign the Brazilian with no skill/talent (Lucas) the Dutchman with no first touch (Kuyt), The Frenchman with no style (N’gog), The Argie with no beatman (Maxi)
So you want to see Elia? who is just Babel part 2??? he is no different.

as lucas has been one of our best players this season, with great performances against teams like chelsea. and kuyt is the leading goal scorer from right mid in the last 2 years. and ngog is young and has scorerd more goals than any of our players this season.
babel has never produced for liverpool, gerrard started his for liverpool in all types of positions, and hes not too bad is he.
also elia is the now 1st chice netherlands left winger, while babel is much much lower down the pecking order than him
No offense… but is this our quality and are we looking to go for such players. Lucas is our best player says it all. where we are going in past we wold never signe such players. Lucas and Ngog are not best players they are below average. Carager past his prime but still we need him. Roy can not play meriales in his proper position. We are still playing maxi on wing who can not pass any defender. Its really painfull to watch our games.
We might have signed players such as Lucas in the past, but the difference is that he wouldn’t have been a key member of our team in the past…
i agree that maxi isnt great, but nogog is young, and you cant say weather he will be good or not yet.and lucas has had a few poor seasons where i really ddint like him, but this season has come back, and now regularly playes for brazil.
elia is someone we need, he beats players, and he is reknowned for being one of the best around at that
Babel is young ‘ and any manager Liverpool have had so far has not given him a chance at center forward. Ngog needs to move to someone like wigan or
stoke. I think from the last 3 games ‘ we need to strengthen the defence’ start playing agger and invest in a solid center half . Also a class forward to pare up with torres. I like Roy hodgy but I don’t know if he can cut it at Liverpool .
