Spanish Press: Perez to make one last bid for Reds star?

|

Spanish newspaper Marca is reporting that Real Madrid president Florentino Perez wants to take advantage of the current troubles at Liverpool by making one last bid for Reds captain Steven Gerrard in the summer. Perez would love to sign Gerrard and he sees the current state of affairs at Anfield as an ideal persuasive tool to lure the 30 year old away from Anfield. According to Marca, both Perez and manager Jose Mourinho are watching events closely at Anfield, and are waiting to see if Gerrard hands in a transfer request in the summer if the Reds fail to qualify for the Champions League.

If they want him then it’s £30 million. We have to look to the future and whilst Stevie is the lynchpin now, how long can he go on? We have to stop relying on him, players have a tendancy to give it to Stevie when he’s playing rather than do it themselves, much in the way we became to reliant on McManaman in the Evans era. This summer is going to be a huge crossroads for us new manager (highly unlikely Kenny will get the job), new players and hopefully a fresh start, otherwise we’re heading for mid table obscurity
