Time for FSG to prove that they are not like Hicks & Gillett

|

Days into the transfer window and still nothing but rumours and gossip regarding possible new signings that Liverpool FC will make. This has become quite frustrating for us Liverpool FC supporters while other clubs are getting on with their transfer dealings. The lack of efficiency and assertiveness of our management staff makes me believe that Mr. John W. Henry and his colleagues at Fenway Sports Group are looking no better than Mr. Tom Hicks and Mr. George Gillett.

Certainly, Liverpool FC in the position that there are currently, would have already identified their targets and by now would be ready to seal the deals as early as possible in an attempt to get their focus back to the job at hand. Instead all that can be said are countless speculations and denials. Mr. Damien Comolli’s job function as I understand is to identify possible quality transfer targets and acquire them with the utmost efficiency. Based on his track record  he seems to be very good at that job. He has been credited for the discovery of some very good players, such as Kolo Toure, Gareth Bale, Luka Modric, Kevin Prince Boetang, and Dimitar Berbatov to name a few.

And with that said I certainly believe he is more than capable of identifying targets for us. However, as it appears at this moment in time, the problem seems to lie on one of two things, either the owners have no confidence in Roy Hodgson and are really looking to get rid of him, or the owners are not willing to put their money where there mouths are. Whatever the circumstances surrounding our lack of transfer activity; NESV needs to resolve it now, by either firing Roy Hodgson or funding the transfer war chest.

I have been a Liverpool F.C supporter since the mid 80's, I fell in love with this club when I saw the likes of Ian Rush and John Barnes play. I hold a Law degree from the University of London ,and a Bachelors of Science Degree from the University of the West Indies.

Henry has already stated that he had been advised that January was generally not a good time to buy.
I would rather get the players we need who are good value than just plugging holes with washed up players who have no value to the club.
To criticize the new owners now would be a bit premature though i would like Roy removed.

Usually I would agree that this is a bad time to buy, but this is as low as Suarez’s valuation is going to get. Once he gets back playing and scoring regularly again, his value will skyrocket again and the big boys will be back in to make sure that we can’t afford him.

The Elia situation also looks like he’s at rock bottom at the momemnt, with them publicly discussing the guy moving on loan to Wigan?! These are two opportunities that we shouldn’t be wasting, and we should be striaght into the market to take advantage while the offers are still available

Kevin, any comparison of NESV (FSG) to H&G is not only premature but frankly ridiculous at this stage. They have been in charge barely 3 months and this is their first transfer window. Deals are very rarely done at the start of the January transfer window anyway, so lets have a bit of patience please.

The knee-jerk reactions from some Liverpool fans are making us look rather stupid, when we’ve always had a reputation for being one of the better, more patient set of fans. Unfortunately this article exemplifies the knee-jerk fan. Let’s give our new owners a little time.

If we can judge Hodgson after 6 months, there is nothing wrong with judging FSG after 3 mopnths/
The excuses that Hodgson has are the same as the new owners because all the blame is being deflected elsewhere.
The Americans are businessmen and should know they can’t let an asset get devalued while in charge.
The worry would really be they bought the club with no game plan because anyone could have come in and said we are doing things long term and therefore defer committing to anything in the short term.
Sometimes there is time to fix a broken business but at this moment in time FSG have to learn and act fast as any slow action is disenfranchising fans. If I was a major sponsor like Standard Chartered I would be thinking twice about all the negative publicity surrounding a business I sponsor.
Its idealistic to say fans should just support what is put in front of them but Hicks and Gillette may have changed that attitude forever

It is wrong to judge them after 3 months, it’s completely wrong. This is their first transfer window and we are only a few days into it. Have any other clubs brought players, have any other high profile deals been doen anywhere in Europe? The answer to both is no, because the majority of January window deals get done later in the month.

For all we know FSG could be talking to 20 different players and 10 different managers but they are likely to be doing it behind closed doors. Just because things are quiet it doesn’t mean that FSG aren’t doing anything. FSG have said that the current results aren’t good enough, but to make the right decision on who the next manager should be takes time. H&G did a lot of damage to this club and it will not all be resolved in 3 months. Give FSG time.

i have a sceptical feeling that until the court case wth h&g is sorted the owners will not go overboard with finance.

  • Bill says:

I doubt if they will buy anyone and we’ll also be stuck with Dodgson till summer when we get the parachute payment to help us in the championship.

It is so frustrating being a Liverpool fan, for the last 4 years. No money, poor transfer activitiy over the years, out of CL, looks like we could be out of EL for next season, looks like we could even be in a relegation battle. This season on the football field we have been a million miles away from being a club that finished 2nd 2 seasons ago. Hodgson’s time must be up as he does not seem to have what it takes. as he himself said to settle the ship,it’s now in a full blown hurrican rocking out of control.
