Rumour Mill: £27m worth of signings on the way?

|

Liverpool have been linked with moves for both Sevilla striker Alvaro Negredo and Southampton midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain today. Spanish newspaper AS has linked the Reds with a £17million for 25 year old Negredo while The Guardian have stated that Liverpool owners FSG are prepared to sanction a £10m move for 17 year old Oxlade-Chamberlain. The Saints midfielder is said to have impressed Liverpool’s scouts and they believe him to be one of the most exciting prospects in the country. The Reds will however have to compete with Arsenal for the youngster’s signature, according to the paper.

  • Eric says:

We need players who can come in and get straight into the team and help turn our season around. 10 mil on a 17 year old is a big risk and won’t be ready for at least another 2 years so why not spend 10 mil on a winger or a striker? Alvaro Negredo is not good enough and definitely not worth 17 mil. He’s scored 16 goals in 47 appearances for Seville so why not get someone like Suarez or Fernando Llorente instead? Spending 27 mil on these 2 players is not worth it and it will be a big big risk.

    • Jay Wright says:

a man after my own heart – I’d rather see us spend nothing than see us waste £27m on those two!

    • Mokolpop says:

      Disagree,

Negredo’s goal scoring record is not disimilar to that of torres from athletico

and we could have signed both Aaron Ramsey and theo Walcott when they where up and coming and we missed out so lets not do it again with another promising prospect, didnt rooney and owen both start playing at the age of 16 ?

Its not a risk at all both would add value to the side and would at least make the bench

      • Voland says:

Llorente is almost certainly out of reach given the apparent interest of Real and Barça. I am not convinced about Negredo; for 17 million I would rather go for someone with the potential of Lukaku or pay more to buy established strikers like Luis Suarez and Agüero.

More generally, I think at least part of our transfer strategy has to be modelled on Wenger. We missed out on Aguero and, apparently, Ronaldo because of our unwillingness to risk funds on young, high-potential prospects. I like the idea of Oxlade-Chamberlain – and I think Comolli should also consider a move for Connor Wickham. If we are ready to pay the price for a proven talent, we should go for Eden Hazard (Lille) or Alexis Sanchez (Udinese).

  • YNWA says:

What happened to the Honda situation… Also we need first team material as well as future stars.
We bought loads of youth talent under Rafa most of which have got bored hanging around??

  • Paul says:

Unsure as to how much money we have but if we can sign these young players now as well as the li

  • Kenny says:

NESV are not going to spend any money unless they get it from player sales. The 300 million they paid for the club will be paid back to the banks from the club’s profits. Torres does not like having a partner up front with him. Liverpool fans and ex players let their hearts rule their heads last summer when the club could have got 70 million for Torres and Gerrard. These players get paid 13.5 million between them a season, but yet the club is only 4 points above the bottom three. The wage bill of 115 million a season is ridiculously high, too many mediocre players like Skyrtel, Konchesky, Lucas, Meireles, Cole, Kuyt, Rodriguez, Babel and Poulsen getting paid farsical wages for no end product.

  • tommy says:

This is just speculation which normally never happens and Alex ferguson was watching him last night, I think he will go to MANU, Another promising star going to the mancs !!!!!

  • dazza says:

dont realy agree with derek as far as negredo is concerned the same was said about torres’s goal scoring ratio when we bought him he wasnt prolific in spain but has adapted well to english football its a gamble whoever you bring in you could have suarez or llorente they have awsome goal scoring ratios in there own country but may come and flop here shevchenko springs to mind !!!!

    • Torres9 says:

Dazza, I’m afraid Negredo isn’t good enough. Not only is his goal record not great, he does not have the stomach for the fight. Trust me I watch a lot of Liga and even went to the Ramon Sanchez Pijuan in November to watch Sevilla vs Getafe. In that game he was getting brushed of the ball (even though he is actually quite a big lad) and tumbled more meekly under the challenge then Berbatov. I often like seeing Sevilla and Negredo is always disappointing and is definitely not one who puts his heart fully into it. I’m afraid he will just get bullied like Morientes did. He has talent, but is mentally weak.

  • Redmist!!! says:

Sorry! How many goals did Torres score when he was in Spain? 14

these are exactly the sort of players we should be signing! There is no quick fix! The short termism must stop!

  • Dennis says:

1stly a huge clear out of dead wood is needed: Outs should be: Krygiakos, Insua, Koncheskey, LUCAS, POULSEN, Jovanovic, M Rodriguez, J Cole, R Babel, D Ngog and D Kuyt.

Ins should and need to be good quality players of
Reina,Johnson, Skrtel, Agger, Aurelio, Meireles, Gerrard and Torres Calibre.

NESV should back Commoli and King Kenny Heavily in Transfer Market:

Try and bring in M Richards from Man City for £8-£10M RB

Should be bringing in G Cahill Of Bolton for £8-£12M CB

They should bring back Momo Sissoko From Juventus for £6-£8M DM

They should bring in M Flamini OF A.C Milan for £7-£9M DM/CM

They should be spending £15-£16M on bringing A Young from A Villa to play on Right wing as out and out right winger. RW

They should be bringing in Royston Drenthe Of Real Madrid for £6-£10M to be our Left footed Left winger. LW

They should try to bring in Llorente Of A Bilbao for £18-£20M FD

They should try to sign/ bring in L Podolski Of FC KOLN for £8-£12M

  • Tom says:

Redmist, do you seriously think Torres only got 14 goals in Spain?! He got 82 league goals for Atletico Madrid at a ratio of quite close to 1 in 2. Negredo would be decent…if we’re talking £10m. I think £17m is way too big a gamble.

As for Oxlade-Chamberlain, I’ve never seen him play but the staff at Southampton apparently rate him higher than they did Theo Walcott. We don’t take any chances on kids and this could be a good opportunity.

  • Dazza says:

Torres9 I agree with you to some extent but he was voted 1 of ten most effective players in la liga this season and hasn’t been played to much he has great assists which Liverpool are screaming out for Torres dosnt like playing with strike partner he wants sum1 to play off him I agree the price mentioned is to high but around 10 mil would be worth ago I watch quite a lot of la liga aswell …. But again Torres was talked about being to light weight but sup prised every1 when he came Manchester united turned him down because they thought he wasnt strong enough for the premiership… All players get brushed off in la liga that’s part of the game out there think of some of the players in the premiership to mention a few dicier drogba … Cristiano ronaldo…. Which are nown for diving at the slightish touch can all stay on there feet when needed … Ronaldo gos down now in la liga at slightest touch just the way it is out there

  • Colonel says:

Dream on people. Why would they let Kenny spend that much money when they don’t even know if he’ll be manager much longer. They probably won’t even want to come here. We’re not exactly a good prospect are we.

  • Paul says:

We need pace in that team urgently. Two wingers and a striker to help Torres

  • Torres9 says:

    Dazza,

I hear what you are saying, but I’m mainly talking about hunger and his willingness to fight. Drogba and Ronaldo all fall down like a sack of spuds, but they can be as strong as an Ox when they want to. Say what you like about Drogba and Greaseball, but when it come to the crunch, often enough they are up for it and have a winning mentality. They do not go hiding (Ronaldo’s ego won’t let him). Whereas has Negredo doesn’t seem to have that burning desire to win, that appetite to succeed that Torres, Drogba and Ronaldo

  • elvis says:

WHY DO WE NOT TRY TO BRING IN SWEINSTERGER FROM BAYERN

  • elvis says:

ONE THING LETS USE MORE DIRK KUYT HE IS GOOD
