Former Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson has questioned whether Reds striker David Ngog will ever become a success at the Merseyside club. Writing in his column for the Liverpool Daily Post, he said about the Frenchman’s performance against Sparta Prague last Thursday:
“The game will have helped the manager nail a few truths about his players. Mainly, that David Ngog can’t play that lone role. He just doesn’t seem to get the concept of holding the ball up and you have to wonder if he will ever make it big, even if he played with another striker.”
Lawrenson also believes that Glen Johnson should stay in the right sided role he played in the first leg:
“Martin Kelly has done well at right-back but if Kenny wants to revert to the wing-back system that was so successful at Chelsea it’s ideal for Johnson on the right flank. And when you think about the type of service Andy Carroll will need, what’s the point in not playing someone who can ping crosses into the box?”

Re;the Chelsea game;Forgive me if I am wrong but I thought that Kelly played on the right flank and played well,sending in some good crosses!(Were you watching the same game that I was ???) I also think that Johnson played on the left side and also played well! What I don’t understand is your comments about how Johnson is able to ‘ping’ crosses over because before he was tried on he left he could hardly beat a man never mind send in good crosses!
oi man slow ya roll okay, johnson is better than kelly with the ball at his feet, i dont know if you actaully follow liverpool that you’d realise that kelly is actually a CB, while he may have had a good game, i would much rather johnson to be the one who plays on the right, and ontop of that his got a better foot that kelly, and id back that anyday.
agreed! its not to say that Kelly isnt good enough,(he’s a great RB/CB) but as a wingback, johnson gives much more going forward. I was quite looking forward to seeing Fabio and Glen in the wingback possitions last week against sparta, just a shame Aurelio’s made of glass, and tbf i dont think Ngog would have done too much in the middle anyway.

Ngog,Maxi(you’ll see that i put him in the starters if Gerrard aint 100% ready for the game and we dont have a better option),Jovanovic,Kyrgiakos,Poulsen,El Zhar,Degen,Insua,Aquilani,Konchesky,Aurelio(always injured!!),Jones..all these OUT of Liverpool NOW!! lets create a squad with every position of the pitch filled with squad depth.against Sparta Prague at Anfield please dont play anyone of these FLOPS..play Johnson at wing,that’s what we’ve been crying out for a long time now.he’s got pace,dribble skills and can help more than maxi does at the wing.

Spot on Mark I said it time and again David Ngog and Dirk Kuyt offer nothing to the team , when i see these 2 so called professional footballers who cannot stop or hold the ball or make decent passes ,I already know we are not going to win the game.KD please get rid of them
