A Reds Starlet Ready To Make First Team Breakthrough?

|

Conor Coady is a name that you might not have heard up until now – particularly if you don’t pay much attention to the either the Liverpool reserves or the England youth set-up, but you can bet that it’s a name you’ll be hearing more of over the next few years. Performing well in your club’s reserve team is one way to make a name for yourself, but it’s doing the job for your national side that will really get the Press salivating.

It’s little surprise, then, that the media have finally homed in on this young British talent after his wonder-strike against the Germans in an U19 game. Coady controlled the ball whilst under pressure from the German defence, and unleashed a looping shot that crashed off of the German’s post. Remarkably composed and sumptuously executed.

Yet, Coady isn’t best known for his goal-grabbing ability. Although he is capable of the odd long-shot or two, he’s much more at home playing the defensive midfield role and controlling the flow of the game from the centre of the park. He’s a gritty, tough young lad, with tenacity comparable to, dare I say it – Steven Gerrard. Should his development continue at this rate, there’s every chance that Coady will be just as influential for Liverpool as Steven Gerrard has been over the course of his illustrious career.

Just 18 years-old, Coady has already represented England at a number of different levels and managed breeze his way up through the ranks at Liverpool to become a regular in the reserves squad. Indeed, Kenny Dalglish has been so pleased with the Merseyside-born youngster’s progress that he was brought to Prague as part of Liverpool’s Europa League set-up and granted a spot on the bench. He will, perhaps, be looking at the way Jack Wilshere has become such a lynchpin for Arsenal this season playing a similar role in the centre of their midfield and wondering if he can’t emulate his success over the coming seasons.

On the evidence of the video below, there’s every chance that he will:

Potential to be a star.dont think he is ready for the first team yet but he is better than lucas

    • Mike says:

He is better than Lucas but not yet ready for 1st team? Then what does that make of Lucas – who is getting really good reviews lately!

      • geliog116 says:

it really is meant to highlight the fact i dont rate lucas very highly

“it really is meant to highlight the fact i dont rate lucas very highly”
Better than King Kenny or Rafa are you? The sensible and the knowledgeable ones rate him highly, and that’s enough!

      • Eddie says:

Lucas only receives “really good reviews” from people who believe that the Liverpool starting XI is the place for severly inept “players” to slightly improve and eventually begin to show tiny signs of a glimmer of potential only when the other 10 players are playing well. BTW pal Rafa was sacked for finishing in 7th position mostly due to picking Lusesless Leiva in every single league game and these new owners wont hesitate in sacking your “knowledgeable one” either if he doesnt realise very quickly that only failure beckons with complete no-hopers like Lucas in our team.

hey fellaz, its better to say lucas has improved.coady is good, give him the exposure and chances given to lucas and he will also improvwe and shine.however i feel michael ngoo needs a chance in the first team.better than ngog.tom ince too and suso

  • SG says:

    might be d next steve G…..hot prospect….

  • its very encouraging hearing the numbers of our young lads from our accademy establishing so well,i want the managers to put eye in them and bring them up well so that they’ll be our future heros and i want them to learn from STEVEN G..

  • Eric says:

Next season I expect him to be be getting some first team experience and I expect Kenny to give him some game time, whether it be League Cup or whatever. He’s 18 now and the next two seasons or so will be crucial for his development. If he can’t get games here then sending him out on loan to the Championship would do him no harm but it has to be a club where he actually gets to play. Good young English players like Wilshere, Henderson and Walcott start playing first team football at around 18 or 19 and if Coady is going to be like then he has to start playing first team football by next season. Just look at Wilshere, only 18 last year but a regular for Bolton and now key player for Arsenal.

  • me says:

don’t mean to be a dick… but you simply cannot judge a player by a 1 minute video. never.

  • Redmist!!! says:

Connor Codey plays predominently with the U18s not the reserves.

  • Geliog116 says:

No one player separates fans like Lucas. That to me says it all. He is not the future of the club oh knowledgable ones

    • Pockets says:

Sorry mate, but Lucas has been our most consistent player for 18 odd months

    • Andy says:

Yep Geliog 116 you truly know more than Rafa, |Kenny or the Brazil manager (Mano Menezes) tell you what why don’t we make you manager manager you’ll actually do the impossible, be worse than the current WBA manager.

      • geliog116 says:

so why after god knows how many games do fans still think he utter shed!He gives the team nothing. rafa slowly lost the plot Roy didnt have a clue Kenny playing him as he better than poosen. He wont be first choice next season.

  • Kenny says:

Coady like all the other talented youth players needs to bulk up in order to make it in the Premiership.

  • mac says:

For you Lucas critics, you are really blinded by some shallow journalism written about him!! Consistently near the top of OPTA stats for a midfielder yet he is useless?? I beg your wisdom here, open your eyes as your not seeing the wood for the trees!!

    • Jimmy says:

Lies, damned lies and statistics…..You can beg all u want pal but u wont a turn clueless cabbage into a premiership footballer. Great passing stats? Not too difficult when u pass the ball 5 yards sideways or backwards. Get a grip, get off your knees and watch the game and not the stats. This isnt baseball u know!

  • Kenny says:

Why are youth players like Coady so undernourished looking compared to the Man Utd players of the same age group? All of Liverpool’s youth players seem to have this problem. Is there any such thing called a gym being used at Liverpool? Who is in charge of the vitamin supplement programme at Liverpool for the youth players?

  • JMc says:

Sorry mate but Lucas is crap

  • Phil says:

For crying out loud, please raise the level of the yardstick that you use to determine if a young player has the potential to make it in the Premier League. If the compilation of Conor Coady excites you that much to write about him, let it be known, lest you are so oblivious to what is happening around you, that there are countless Conor Coadys out there, some even more skilful and talented than the real McCoy!

  • ian harrison says:

At end of every game lucas plays i look back and think what has he done during the game, one of the worst ever to play for pool

  • Tug says:

for me lucas is in the same catergory as kuyt, both very likable characters and show a positve determination to win but when it comes down to technical ability and providing a match winning performance…and i know kuyt scored a hatrick against the mancs but a combined total distance of 7 yards basically all tap ins..they both are not good enough to win us the league….im slightly more in favour of lucas to kuyt but for me still not good enough.
